Job Description

Job Summary: 

We are seeking highly motivated and dedicated individuals to join the law firm as Pupil. The Pupillage program offers aspiring lawyers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience and comprehensive training under the guidance of experienced barristers. The pupil will be exposed to a wide range of legal practice areas, equipping them with the skills and knowledge required for a successful career at the Bar.

Responsibilities

  • Shadowing and Observing: The pupil will closely shadow experienced barristers during court proceedings, client meetings, and other legal activities to gain insights into effective advocacy, case strategy, and legal research techniques.
  • Legal Research: Conduct thorough legal research to support senior barristers in case preparation, providing comprehensive analysis of relevant laws, precedents, and regulations.
  • Drafting: Assist in drafting legal documents, including pleadings, opinions, contracts, and legal correspondence, under the supervision of senior barristers.
  • Case Analysis: Analyze case materials, identify key issues, and contribute to the development of case strategies by providing insights and recommendations.
  • Client Interaction: Accompany senior barristers during client meetings, take notes, and gain exposure to client interaction and relationship management.
  • Court Appearances: As the Pupillage progresses, participate in court proceedings under the guidance of senior barristers, including making submissions, cross-examining witnesses, and handling procedural matters.
  • Feedback and Development: Accept constructive feedback from senior barristers, actively engage in self-assessment, and work towards continuous improvement in legal skills and professional conduct.
  • Training: Attend internal training sessions, workshops, and seminars to enhance legal knowledge, advocacy skills, and understanding of practice areas.
  • Chambers Responsibilities: Contribute to the smooth functioning of chambers by assisting with administrative tasks, case organization, and maintaining the integrity of legal resources.

Qualification & Experience

Education

  • A Bachelor of Laws (LLB) Degree, Minimum Second-Class Honors from a recognized University.

Experience

  • Letter from Kenya School of Law confirming completion of the Advocates Training Program recommendation to proceed to pupillage.

Knowledge, skills and abilities

  • Demonstrate good verbal and written communication skills in both English and Kiswahili.
  • Demonstrate a proactive attitude and willingness to learn.
  • Handling challenging assignments within timelines.
  • Computer Literate
