Summary

Data collection purpose : To collect high-quality data that addresses research questions ethically and within stipulated period.

Anticipated Timeline : The proposed data collection is scheduled to begin in mid-October and end in mid-November 2023.

QUALITATIVE FIELD INTERVIEWERS

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Recruitment of participants using pre-defined eligibility criteria.
  • Obtain and document informed consent/assent from the study participants prior to the interviews.
  • Moderate/ facilitate qualitative interviews and stakeholder workshops with various people at the national, subnational, community, market and school level.
  • Take notes and compile comprehensive qualitative interview debriefing notes.
  • Prepare data collection progress report and updates.
  • Perform other duties as may be assigned by the supervisor and project manager.

Minimum qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Food and Nutrition, Social Sciences or Health related fields.
  • Have proven experience and skills in qualitative research methods (conducting FGDs, IDIs and/or KIIs).
  • Ability to facilitate and moderate group discussions in English and Swahili.
  • Have experience in note taking during qualitative interviews.
  • Have proven experience in qualitative data collection in low-income settings.
  • Have strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Residents of Nyalenda or Manyatta (or areas close to the sites) will have an added advantage.
  • Be available to work full time on the project for the duration of the study.

QUANTITATIVE FIELD INTERVIEWERS

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Identify and recruit participants based on pre-defined eligibility criteria.
  • Conduct quantitative data collection in the assigned study sites.
  • Complete, edit and submit all assigned interviews for crosschecking and verification by the team leader on a daily basis.
  • Review the collected data to ensure all questions are complete prior to online submission.
  • Follow-up with participants for missing responses or correct any inaccurate responses.
  • Ensure the safety of all assigned study tools and equipment.
  • Fill in daily progress reports/timesheets.
  • Participate in weekly team meetings.
  • Assist the research team in other project-related activities.
  • Any other related activity assigned by the supervisor, project manager and principal investigator.

Minimum qualifications

  • Have completed secondary education and possess a minimum grade C Plain in KCSE.
  • Have proven experience in quantitative data collection in low-income settings.
  • Experience in public health and or nutrition surveys.
  • Proficient in Microsoft office applications.
  • Have experience in using electronic data capture methods like digital recorders and survey CTO or open data kit (ODK).
  • Preferably a resident of Nyalenda or Manyatta the study sites or has knowledge of the study sites.
  • Fluent in English and Kiswahili (verbal and written).
  • Be prepared to work full time on the project for the duration of the study.

  • Residents of the study area listed above: Kisumu (Area of residence should be clearly indicated in the cover letter).
  • Be prepared to work full time on the project for the duration of the data collection.
  • Flexible and available to work odd hours (when necessary), under minimal supervision.
