Job Description

Kenchic Limited is the leading producer of poultry in East and Central Africa. At its inception, the company’s main activity was the production of broiler and layer day-old chicks. Over the years the company has expanded operations to include processed chicken and further processed products. The company started its operations in 1984. The company’s Head Office is in Exsan House along Enterprise road. Kenchic is proud to be the largest integrated poultry operation in East and Central Africa and deals in day-old chicks, processed chicken meat and further processed products such as smoked sausages, choma sausages & sausages.

Quality Controller – Intern 

Location: Thika Processing Plant Reports to: Assistant Quality Assurance Manager

ABOUT THE ROLE

  • Kenchic PLC is seeking a diligent and detail-oriented Quality Controller-Intern to join our Quality Assurance Department. This role is responsible for quality conformance checks and inspection of ingredients, raw materials, packaging materials, in-process and finished products. The role ensures that all products meet established food safety and quality requirements while driving a culture of continuous improvement.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Implement and monitor quality and food safety requirements across receiving, production, storage, and dispatch.
  • Conduct real-time quality checks, sampling, laboratory testing, and sensory evaluations.
  • Ensure accurate documentation, traceability, and timely reporting of product quality and process deviations.
  • Investigate product nonconformities, customer complaints, and support root cause analysis with timely corrective actions.
  • Participate in new product development, including testing, reporting, and specification development.
  • Conduct internal audits, monitor GMP and hygiene compliance, and ensure sanitation schedules are met.
  • Manage QA programs, records, and compliance with industry standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Provide quality and food safety training to staff to support a sustainable quality culture.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Diploma in Food Science/Technology, Chemistry, Biology, or related discipline (bachelor’s degree is an advantage)
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication skills,
  • Attention to detail, and a team player.
