Job Description

We, China Energy Engineering Group Guangxi Electric Power Design Institute Co., Ltd. Kenya Branch, are seeking a Quantity Surveyor (QS) with engineering experience for full – life – cycle cost management, contract control, and risk management. The candidate must know the Kenyan construction laws, market trends, and international standards (like FIDIC contracts), and coordinate contractors, design teams, and clients to ensure on – budget, high – quality project delivery.

Key Responsibilities

1. Comprehensive knowledge of the Kenyan laws, construction – industry regulations, and FIDIC contract terms. Evaluate contractors’ bids, spot risks, and protect project interests.

2. Compile the Bill of Quantity, cost build-up of engineering design drawings.

3. On-site Quantity Surveying, participate the interim and completion settlement work.

4. Gather prices for labor, materials, equipment, and construction machinery rentals. Analyze cost impacts of design changes and material price swings. Regularly report cost deviations and correction steps, and suggest improvements.

5. Calculate the quantities and review Project Verification Form.

6. Complete other assigned tasks.

Educational Background and Certifications

1. Bachelor’s degree or above, majoring in Quantity Surveying, Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related fields.

2. Hold certification from BORAQS, EBK, or equivalent.

3. Those with RICS or similar international certification are preferred.

Work Experience

1. Must have at least 3 years’ experience in Project Management with local construction/ engineering project QS experience. Those with sewage treatment plant, municipal engineering, or affordable housing project management experience are preferred.

2. Be familiar with local construction material prices, subcontractor resources, and labor cost structures. Can handle variation and claims, and communicate and write in English.

Skill Requirements

1. Proficient in CostX, Bluebeam, or similar quantity calculation software.

2. Skilled in using MS Office for cost modeling and data analysis.

3. Excellent negotiation and communication skills. Able to write reports in English and coordinate with various parties. Swahili speakers are preferred.

4. Adapt to switch between sites and office.

Offerings

1. Competitive salary: Monthly salary ranging from KES 150,000-300,000 (negotiable based on experience), including performance – based bonuses.
