About the Client:

Our client is a leading innovative construction solutions provider in East Africa who has a proven track record of performance driven by solid knowledge and experience in the construction industry and is seeking to recruit a Quarry General Manager. The job holder will be responsible for overseeing the overall operations of the quarry, with a strong focus on sales and public relations. This role includes managing a team of 65 employees, ensuring efficient production processes, maintaining strong customer relationships, and driving business growth.

Key Responsibilities:

Team Management:

  • Lead, supervise, and support a team of 65 employees, including production staff, administrative personnel, and sales representatives.
  • Provide training, development, and performance evaluations to ensure a high-performing team.
  • Foster a positive and safe work environment, addressing any employee concerns or conflicts promptly.

Sales and Business Development:

  • Develop and implement sales strategies to meet or exceed revenue targets.
  • Identify new business opportunities and build relationships with potential clients.
  • Maintain and strengthen relationships with existing clients to ensure repeat business.
  • Monitor market trends and competitor activities to adjust strategies as needed.

Public Relations and Community Engagement:

  • Serve as the primary point of contact between the quarry and the local community.
  • Promote a positive image of the quarry through effective public relations initiatives.
  • Address any community concerns or complaints related to quarry operations.
  • Participate in community events and activities to build strong local relationships.

Operational Management:

  • Oversee daily operations to ensure the quarry runs efficiently and safely.
  • Monitor production processes to ensure optimal output and quality standards.
  • Coordinate with the maintenance team to ensure all equipment is well-maintained and operational.
  • Implement and enforce safety protocols to minimize risks and ensure compliance with regulations.

Financial Management:

  • Develop and manage the quarry’s budget, ensuring cost-effective operations.
  • Monitor financial performance and take corrective actions as necessary to achieve financial targets.
  • Work closely with the finance department to manage expenses, invoicing, and collections.

Reporting and Communication:

  • Prepare and present regular reports on sales, production, and financial performance to senior management.
  • Maintain clear and open communication with all departments to ensure smooth operations.
  • Collaborate with other managers and departments to drive overall business success

Key Qualifications and Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Management, Mining, or a related field.
  • 7+ years of experience in quarry management, sales, or a related industry.
  • Proven leadership and team management skills.
  • Strong sales and public relations experience.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Knowledge of quarry operations and safety regulations.
  • Strategic thinking and business acumen.
  • Strong negotiation and relationship-building skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities effectively.
  • Problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
  • Proficiency in financial management and budgeting.

Work Environment:

  • The role is primarily based at the quarry site but may require travel to meet with clients and attend community events.
