Job Description

The promulgation of the Constitution of Kenya, 2010, introduced the devolved system of Government which resulted to the formation of the 47 Counties across the Country, Kakamega County being among them. Kakamega County is located in the western region of the country with an area of 3,051.3 square kilometers and an estimated population of 2,079,669 and density of 682. Administratively, it is divided into twelve sub counties, sixty wards, one hundred and eighty seven Village Units and four hundred Community Administrative Areas. Politically, it comprises of twelve constituencies and sixty wards. The climate in this region is very conducive for many activities including crop and animal production. Duties and Responsibilities

This will be the entry grade into this cadre.  An officer at this level will work under the guidance and supervision of a senior officer.

Duties and responsibilities will entail:

  • Receiving and identifying patients for diagnostic and therapeutic procedures;
  • Providing basic diagnostic and therapeutic radiography services;
  • Caring for and counseling patients and their guardian before, during and after the examination;
  • Applying radiation safety measures to self, patient and the public; and
  • Performing routine quality control checks.
  • Providing radiographic services to the patients;
  • Processing, verifying and maintaining information relating to patients; and
  • Ordering and maintaining records of radiographic and photographic supplies.

Requirements for Appointment

For appointment to this grade, a candidate must have: –

  • Diploma in Radiography, Medical Imaging Sciences, Diagnostic Radiography/Medical Imaging Sciences, Ultrasound, Computerized Tomography, Magnetic Resonance Imaging, Mammography, Nuclear Medicine, Radiation Therapy and Digital Medical imaging equipment or its equivalent qualification from a recognized institution;-
  • Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) mean grade C (plain) with grade C (plain) in English/Kiswahili, Biology/Biological Sciences or Physics/Physical Sciences and C- in Mathematics; and
  • Certificate in computer applications from a recognized institution.
