Job Description

British Army Training Unit, Kenya (BATUK) delivers world leading infantry training in Kenya with the Kenyan Defense Forces (KDF) under the Defense Cooperation Agreement (DCA) with the Kenyan Government.

Range Warden

Generic description of duties:

Under the direction of the RW TL, undertake activities that enable and maintenance the Safe Place to Train in Kenya.

Core Competences:

Essential:

Main Duties:

  • Undertake the clearance of all training areas prior to any training being conducted, including sentry duties when ordered to do so by your TSM/TL
  • Undertake helicopter clearance flight duties when directed by TSO/TSM.
  • Undertake fire containment duties, including overwatch tasks, as directed by your TL.
  • Undertake cordon duties including overwatch when UXO (Unexploded Ordinance) is found on the training area iaw RSO (Range Standing Order).
  • Undertake operator duties in (Range Standing Order) Nyati Range Control, (Operating Base) OB SWARA and the Holding Area.
  • Maintain your allocated Safe Place to Train vehicle iaw to BATUK MT SOs.
  • Responsible for the cleanliness of Range Warden accommodation, ablutions, and rest room.

Secondary Duties:

  • Deliver Wildfire containment training to Battle Group and other exercising personnel as part of the BATUK RSOI process
  • Act as an interpreter when required

Qualifications  / Experience:

Essentials:

  • KCSE Grade D or above
  • Must be able to speak English and Swahili to a good standard.
  • Must be IT literate, specifically MS Word.
  • Must be physically fit and able to pass a medical examination based on the required outputs of the role.
  • A clear and confident manner when speaking on the radio or mobile phone.
  • Must possess of a clean and valid Class B Kenyan driving license.

Desirable:

  • Have a knowledge of wildlife, flora and fauna.
  • Previous service with Kenya Wildlife Service.

Training Requirements:

  • Estate Safety Course (UK delivered)
  • RPAS Operators Course
  • UXO awareness training
  • Team medic
  • Vehicle familiarisation / conversion training
  • Use of black communications systems & voice procedure
  • Fire awareness training
  • Health & Safety training
  • Basic first aid training
  • Basic map reading
  • Wildlife behaviour and awareness training
