Job Description

Kenya Medical Research Institute (KEMRI) is a State Corporation established through the Science and Technology (Amendment) Act of 1979, which has since been amended to Science, Technology and Innovation Act 2013. The 1979 Act established KEMRI as a National body responsible for carrying out health research in Kenya.

Person specification:

For appointment to this grade the candidate must have:

  •  Diploma in any of the following disciplines: Kenya Registered Community Health Nursing, Nursing, Kenya Registered Midwifery, Nursing/Midwifery, Nursing/Mental Health and Psychiatry or any other equivalent qualification from a recognized institution;
  •  Registration Certificate issued by the Nursing Council of Kenya;
  •  Valid Practicing Licensing from Nursing Council of Kenya;
  •  At least three years’ experience working in a clinical trial or research setting will be an added advantage
  •  Proficiency in computer application skills from a recognized institution;

Duties and Responsibilities:

  •  Provide basic triage to study participants
  •  Assessing study participants and establishing health care needs;
  •  Planning and implementing care interventions based on study participants health needs;
  •  Ensuring infection prevention control providing appropriate healthcare services, Including, administration of medication,
  •  Consenting, enrolment and follow up of study participants
  •  Ensures high quality accurate data collection and recording of confidential clinical data.
  •  Maintain adequate amounts of required nursing department supplies.
  •  Providing health education and counselling on identified health and socio-economic needs to study participants
  •  Referring study participants appropriately;
  •  Ensuring a tidy and safe clinical environment; and
  •  Ensuring safe custody of the nursing equipment and nursing records
