Job Description

The Standard group comprises The Standard newspapers, The Nairobian, KTN, KTN News, Radio Maisha, Standard Digital and Think Outdoor Services. The Group is looking for a qualified, experienced and self- motivated individual to fill the position of Occupational Safety and Health Officer.

OVERALL PURPOSE OF THE JOB.

This role is responsible for providing guidance to the Chief Accountant and Executive Management through management reporting; budgeting and forecast cost and control.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Preparation of monthly management accounts.
  • Provide the required assurance that all accounting entries passed in the GL are free of material misstatements and that due diligence is observed while processing accounting journals.
  • Preparation of monthly segments and group consolidated profit and loss statements, Balance sheet and cashflow statement.
  • Respond to financial inquiries raised by various costs and profit centers. Ensure appropriate and effective accounting policies procedures are adopted in accordance with statutory requirements and accounting standards.
  • Offer decision support to business units through informative dashboards, trend reports and variance analysis.
  • Cost control through daily approval of expenditures to conform to set budgets.
  • Regularly advise management on new projects profitability through preparation of P&Ls, Cashflows and ROI reports.
  • Assist in preparation of the Annual financial Report booklet.
  • Daily GL analysis and monitoring of quality of the information input. Preparation of company annual budget through collection of information from the business units, analysis using a zero-based approach, consolidating and submission to management for discussion and alignment, before approval by the Board of Directors. Upload of the approved budgets to SAP(ERP). Maintaining budgetary control through daily analysis of revenue and cost.
  • Direct material costing which involves preparation of weekly reports for print consumables and the broadcast programs schedule.

REQUIREMENTS

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • University degree in accounting such as B. Com (Accounting) or equivalent. CPA (K), ICPAK, ACCA.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years’ experience in similar work in a commercial organization
  • Strategic planning and Goal setting to ensure the organization’s long- term sustainability
  • Full member of top decision-making body
  • Ability to understand long term effects on the organization Must understand function/discipline planning requirements. Contributes to policy making decisions impacting the whole organization.

SKILLS AND OTHER ATTRIBUTES

  • Strong organizational skills and ability to work with others and manage multiple time sensitive matters in a demanding organization. Ability to take initiative, analyze issues and generate potential
  • solutions.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft applications including Microsoft Office Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
