Job Description

Samuel Hall is a social enterprise that conducts research in countries affected by issues of migration and displacement. Our mandate is to produce research that delivers a contribution to knowledge with an impact on policies, programmes, and people. Tasks & Responsibilities

Objective 1 – Research Management and Coordination

  • Set the vision of the project with the Pillar Lead
  • Guide the project teams to understand and implement the vision.
  • Report to the Pillar Lead on a weekly basis in writing
  • Advise on and implement recruitment decisions for each project.
  • Maintain a pool of external consultants, researchers, and partners on specific thematic issues.
  • Manage and train project team members.
  • Focus on specific thematic areas of research and development in-house expertise.
  • Lead Research and Planning Team Meetings
  • Participate in the Objective Key Results (OKR) process and any internal strategic discussions.

Objective 2 – Client Management and Communications

  • Responsible for addressing major client and partner requests, and problem-solving at critical times and on critical issues such as methods, research content, etc.
  • Lead on timely approval of research deliverables
  • Responsible for all internal and external communications on the project
  • Maintain select relationships in key organizations.

Objective 3 – Research

  • Lead on methodology and design as per industry, academic, and SH standards.
  • Lead on analysis and report writing.
  • Lead on visualization and presentation
  • Review and evaluation of data quality and timeliness of data collection
  • Manage mixed methods fieldwork in multiple countries.
  • Manage, train and task team members
  • Contribute to dissemination strategies and activities

Vacancy Requirements

Required

  • A Masters degree in International Relations, International Development, Political Science, or a related field
  • A minimum of 6 years of relevant experience in research in the migration and displacement field
  • Proven experience in writing research papers, consultancy reports, evaluation assignments, and policy briefs
  • Proven experience in project management and leading teams
  • Proven expertise in quantitative and qualitative data analysis and tools (for example, R, SPSS, NVIVO)
  • Knowledge of key institutional frameworks and stakeholders
  • Strong presentation skills and ability to build professional relationships.
  • Excellent verbal and written skills in English
  • Keen attention to detail
  • Ability to be patient and to work well within a global team.
  • Ability to cope well under pressure, occasionally work irregular hours and meet tight deadlines.

Desirable

  • A PhD degree in a relevant field
  • Published articles/papers (peer-reviewed)
  • French, Arabic, Dari, Pashto, and/or additional languages
  • Past experience specific to the East and Horn of Africa, Central/South Asia, and/or the Middle East and North Africa
