  • Management of the Business Finance function for Financial Markets across the Sub Region

  • Maintenance of a robust control environment around the Financial Markets product set.
Key Roles and Responsibilities


Business Finance

  •  Partner with the FM Business to drive performance management through targeted, standard set of regular financial information.
  • This will involve providing  objective and analytical insights into the performance,  highlighting risks and opportunities  and providing recommendations and action plan for any ‘gap filling’ and tracking through to implementation.
  • Provide informative commentary on sales performance, market peer comparisons, specific sales initiatives and sales trends for the FM Sales business.
  • Contribute efficiencies to the current MIS and being part of the ongoing Financial transformation
  • To ensure IAS/IFRS, ALCO and other practices are regionally consistent.
  • Responsible for any new product programmes and to support the Business in all financial and booking / system related issues for new products.
  • Liaising with Product Control and BSRS team for  the Monthly Balance Sheet substantiation
  • Serve as primary point of contact between Finance and the Financial Markets business heads & FM desk heads.
  • Managing the processes and systems for formulating and evaluating business strategies/performance including planning, forecasting and budgeting, advanced analysis of financial data and product profitability.
  • Proactive and forward looking, forecasts and budget, advanced analysis of financial data and product/segment profitability.
  • To work with Product Control teams in monitoring the daily profitability for the Financial Markets business.
  • To ensure that timely and accurate business packs for Financial Markets (Financial Performance)


Control Environment

  • Support the Financial Markets together with the Country CFOs in the maintenance of a robust control environment around the Financial Markets product set including segregation of duties and access levels to ensure data integrity and hence the accuracy of reporting .
  • The individual will be responsible for the design, build and maintenance of a robust control environment to govern the accurate reporting of Financial Markets Income.
  •  Development of consistent booking models across the Bank’s transaction processing systems and to consolidate processes in line with the Bank’s strategic projects.
  •  Monitor compliance with Financial Markets and Group/Local accounting policies and accounting standards and proactively implement and manage policy and standard changes
  •  Migrate and establish best practice in the Business Finance operations to reduce costs and improve efficiencies, and enhance the overall control environment
  • In conjunction with the CIB Business Finance Heads and  respective  country CFOs, play an instrumental role for the Finance community across the region, in particular, building awareness and knowledge of FM products, accounting and controls



Qualifications and Skills



  • Qualified accountant with at least 5 yrs post qualifying experience
  • Experience of Financial Markets treasury products, ideally covering FX, credit, interest rate derivatives, options, ALM. Other products
  • A strong understanding of the financial and tax reporting requirements and issues for Financial Markets products including Africa specific experience & product knowledge.
  • Ability to work under constant pressure to tight deadlines and deliver high quality output.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate & challenge at all levels both written (report and guideline writing) and verbally.
  • Lateral thinker with ability to use own initiative.
  • Hands on experience with FM technology applications, packages and spreadsheets.
  • Customer Oriented.
