Job Description

Murang’a County is one of the five counties in the Central region of the Republic of Kenya. It is bordered to the North by Nyeri, to the South by Kiambu, to the West by Nyandarua and to the East by Kirinyaga, Embu and Machakos counties.

Secretary, County Public Service Board

Secretary, County Public Service Board – (1 POST) Ref: MCG/CG/2025/02
For appointment to this position, a candidate must: –

  • Be a certified public secretary of good professional standing,
  • Hold a degree from a recognized university,
  • Has at least five years’ relevant work experience,
  • Demonstrate absence of breach of the relevant professional code of conduct,
  • Meets the requirements of leadership and integrity as prescribed in Chapter Six of the Constitution of Kenya,
  • Not hold Public or State Office,
  • Be capable of working under pressure to meet strict deadlines,
  • Have a thorough knowledge of the structural, legislative, and regulatory framework of the public service,
  • Meet other requirements as per Article 232 of the Constitution, Section 58 of the
  • County Government Act and other relevant laws.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Facilitating, coordinating and ensuring execution of the Board’s mandate;
  • Accounting and Authorized Officer of the Board;
  • Overall in-charge of the Secretariat;
  • Planning and Budgeting for the Board;
  • Custodian of all Records, Assets and Minutes of the Board;
  • Implementing decisions of the Board;
  • Preparing both periodic and adhoc reports for submission to the County Assembly on the execution of the functions of the Board.
  • Preparing the Agenda for Board meetings in consultation with the Chairperson of the Board and taking minutes during the Board Meeting
  • Initiating programmes and activities for staff performance and reward management;
  • Preparing and submitting programmes and strategies necessary for achievement of Board’s mandate for the approval of the Board;
  • Carrying out any other duties as may be assigned from time to time by the Board.

    • Kenya revenue authority;
    • Ethics and anticorruption commission;
    • Higher education loans board;
    • iAny of the registered credit reference bureaus;
    • Directorate of criminal investigations (police clearance certificate)
  • Letter of recognition of qualifications from the commission for university education (CUE) for any degree obtained from foreign universities; and
  • Recommendations from relevant professional bodies (where applicable) or current membership/practicing certificate.
