Valar is a client-focused strategy and risk management organization that specializes in information and analysis, crisis response, stabilization and peace building operations. In 2013, a group of experienced and motivated risk management, strategy and development professionals came together to discuss the changing nature of peace building and the response of stabilization organizations in today’s complex and rapidly-changing frontier markets.

Summary

This position is to assist the established security management professionals within a large organization as they plan for and initiate a significant shift in operations.  The Security Management Support Expert will provide an essential resource to security management and to general management in place, operating fully within their programme and ensuring successful outcomes.  This role demands a high level of emotional intelligence, as the individual will be actively involved in supporting the current team and engaging at a high level with all departments within the organization to ensure security is central to all strategy and planning functions.

Responsibilities:

• Rapid familiarization to client security systems including review of security plans and strategies.
• Familiarisation and understanding of the client’s goals and the complex planning requirements which cover the period from August 2023 to August 2024.
• Ensure robust risk assessments are in place to support all planning.
• Support management to review and update all existing strategies and plans.
• Work across all departments to incorporate security into all planning processes.
• Assist all departments to understand security concerns and make changes required to ensure a smooth shift in operations.
• Support the management to ensure relations with government security are strategically positioned to support company plans and goals and formalize working relationships with suitable MOUs.
• Assist management with the reconfiguration of external security providers if needed.
• Work with the client management, the Valar information team, and the Senior Security Manager to maximize the security model.
• Provide direct operational support when required.

Qualifications

Required

• Proven expertise in drafting security plans and strategies to support complex private sector operations.
• Strong engagement skills and ability to synthesize complex information received from multiple subject area experts.
• Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
• Good understanding of operational security practices in a private sector setting.
• Proven leadership and training skills
• Experience in developing programs to properly utilize government security to support in a private sector context.

• Experience working in Africa
• Experience working with large organizations or businesses
• Firm understanding of project planning and development cycles
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively in an embedded capacity
• Excellent risk management skills and experience
• Emergency management experience
• Experience in oil and gas or the mining sector
• Firm understanding of community engagement
