Job Description

Madison Group Limited is a locally owned financial services holding company that specializes in Insurance and wealth management services. The Group comprises of Madison Life Assurance Kenya Limited, Madison General Insurance Kenya Limited, and Madison Investment Managers Limited. Madison Life Assurance Kenya was originally incorporated under Kenyan Laws in 1988 as Madison Insurance Company Limited (MICK) after a successful merger between Crusader Plc (1974) and Kenya Commercial Insurance Corporation.

Key Responsibilities and Duties

  • Participation in preparation of the annual budgets, monthly, quarterly and annual forecasts.
  • In charge of enforcement of internal financial controls and financial procedures manual.
  • Ensure payment of claims are as per the agreed SLAS, payroll creditors and suppliers are paid within the set timelines.
  • Responding to Internal and External audit queries and ensuring that their recommendations are addressed and acted upon.
  • Ensure monthly reconciliation of I-tax ledger
  • Processing of staff payroll on a monthly basis.
  • Ensure accuracy of General Ledger and bank balances through reconciliations and ensuring month end close procedure.
  • Ensure the organization is compliant with all the relevant statutory bodies The Kenya Revenue Authority, Insurance Regulatory Authority through timely filing and payment of levies and Taxes.
  • Ensure staff have clear and measurable KPIs and Entrenching performance-based appraisal of departmental staff in line with their set KPI’s and departmental targets.
  • Review expenditure requests against budget.
  • Maintaining monthly schedules of all taxes paid.
  • Reconciliation and analysis of Reinsurance accounts.
  • Preparation of Monthly expense variance reports.
  • Monthly performance reports for all the business units.
  • Authorization of payments (Claims, Expenses) before processing and signing of cheques as per the mandates.
  • Perform any other duties assigned from time to time.

Academic Background, Relevant Qualifications and Competencies

  • Bachelor of Commerce or related field.
  • CPA (K) qualifications.
  • Member of the Institute of certified Public Accountants of Kenya of good standing.
  • At least 10 years relevant work experience.
  • Technical accounting knowledge.
  • Experience in the Insurance Industry is an added advantage.
  • Knowledge regulatory framework and requirements.
  • Technical report writing skills.
  • Knowledge & experience in budget forecasting and projections.
  • Working experience with SAP ERP & Oracle based systems.
  • Strong leadership and management skills.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation and interpersonal skills.
