Job Description

AVSI, created in 1972, is a non-profit organization that carries out development cooperation and humanitarian aid projects throughout the world.

Senior Accountant (National Position)

Main tasks and responsibilities

Duties and Responsibilities.

 

  • Prepare, examine, and analyse accounting records, financial statements, and other financial reports to assess accuracy, completeness and conformance to reporting and procedural standards.
  • Compile and analyse financial information to prepare financial statements, including monthly and annual accounts.
  • Ensure financial records are maintained in compliance with accepted policies and procedures.
  • Prepare financial management reports.
  • Establish and monitor the implementation and maintenance of accounting control procedures.
  • Resolve accounting discrepancies and irregularities.
  • Compute taxes and prepare returns, ensuring compliance with payments, reporting and other tax requirements.
  • Ensure accurate and appropriate recording and analysis of revenues and expenses.
  • Analyse and advise on business operations including revenue and expenditure trends, financial commitments and future revenues.
  • Analyse financial information to recommend or develop efficient use of resources and procedures, provide strategic recommendations and maintain solutions to business and financial problems.
  • Assist in management of Asset and inventory register.
  • Carry out any other duties and/or responsibilities assigned by the supervisor.

Essential Requirements

Qualifications and Experience.

  • A degree in accounting or finance from a recognized institution.
  • Be a Certified Public Accountant (K).
  • Member of Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Kenya.
  • Computer literate with knowledge of one or more accounting software preferably Microsoft Navision.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience working as an Accountant or in a comparable position.
  • Those with experience working in non-profit organizations have an added advantage.

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Demonstrate strong ability to coordinate and manage multiple teams, partners, and maintain strong relationships with government entities, donors, and other stakeholders.
