Job Description

The Kenya Electricity Transmission Company Limited (KETRACO) is a 100% state-owned corporation incorporated on 2nd December, 2008 under the Company’s Act, Cap 486 as a State Corporation pursuant to the Sessional Paper No. 4 of 2004 on Energy.

Reporting to the Manager, Real Time Operations

Job purpose

The successful candidate will be responsible for undertaking quality and reliable delivery of electrical energy by dispatching generation as planned to the consumer at ALL times and respects commercial and technical obligations of the TSO.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supervising system operations during shift
  • Tracking and reporting equipment loading, alarms on the system during the shift and taking appropriate action
  • Ensuring timely resolution of system breakdowns and response to emergencies
  • Reporting faulty equipment and SCADA/EMS malfunctions during shift to SCADA supervisor
  • Ensuring generation dispatch plan is adhered to
  • Monitoring effect of system disturbances on dispatch and implementing dispatch changes where necessary
  • Performing system studies/simulations and contingency analysis and recommending corrective actions periodically during shift
  • Ensuring all information is captured in records/data (ELOA, EPTW, Handover notes and log sheets) during shift
  • Reporting any incidences/event during the shift to the concerned departments/agencies and management
  • Reviewing the shift reports e.g. handover notes, Executive brief, disturbance report
  • Ensuring update of Load Shedding and Under Frequency files
  • Ensuring all planned and forced outages are captured in Electrical Asset Management System

Qualifications & Skills Required:

  • Bachelors’ Degree in Electrical Engineering or related Electrical Engineering Degree
  • Registered member with EBK
  • Member of IEK
  • Supervisory Skills Development Course lasting not less than four (2) weeks
  • A minimum of six (6) years relevant work experience

Working Condition:

  • Office setting and field visits
