Job Description

Mombasa County is one of the 47 Counties of Kenya. Its capital and the only city in the county is Mombasa. Initially it was one of the former Districts of Kenya but in 2013 it was reconstituted as a county, on the same boundaries. It is the smallest county in Kenya, covering an area of 229.7 km2 excluding 65 km2 of water mass.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Developing and reviewing financial control systems that protect the Corporation’s assets;
  • Preparing complete, accurate and timely financial statements;
  • Overseeing cash flow management of the Corporation;
  • Developing relationships with financial institutions;
  • Developing optimal capital structure to enhance business expansion, minimize Corporation’s cost of capital and risk of financial distress;
  • Efficient management of current assets, current liabilities, turnover and enhanced  management of working capital and cash conversions cycles;
  • Formulating the Corporation’s financial strategy and coordinating preparation of annual budgets for resource allocation;
  • Analyzing business financial performance;
  • Advising management on all matters of financial management and undertaking financial assessments;
  • Developing, implementing and ensuring compliance with financial policies and procedures;
  • Coordinate financial audits and ensure implementation of recommendations;
  • Ensuring compliance with applicable financial statutory obligations and circulars;
  • Reviewing bank reconciliations;
  • Ensuring tax compliance in all operations of the Corporation;
  • Preparing final financial reports at the end of the financial year;
  • Ensuring monthly processing of payroll;
  • Ensuring monthly processing and reconciliation of payments;
  • Assessing financial viability of all Corporation investments

Requirements for appointment

  • Be a Kenyan citizen;
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, (preferably with a major in finance, economics or statistics) or a related field from a recognized University;
  • Master’s Degree in a related field from a recognized University will be an added advantage;
  • Have had experience in management for a period of not less than five (5) years;
  • Must be an ICPAK member;
  • Proficiency in computer applications;
  • Fulfil the requirements of Chapter Six of the Constitution.
