Job Description

The Centre for Rights, Education and Awareness (CREAW) is a feminist, non-profit womens rights organization that seeks to confront the low awareness of womens real needs and rights in Kenya. CREAW envisions a transformed and just equal society and its mission is to champion, expand and actualize womens rights.

Job Overview:

As a Senior Finance Officer in CREAW, you will play a key role in managing the financial operations of the organization, ensuring compliance with donor requirements, and contributing to the overall financial accountability and transparency of CREAW. You will be responsible for overseeing budgeting, financial reporting, grant management, and ensuring adherence to regulatory and organizational policies. The role requires a deep understanding of financial management in the non-profit sector, as well as a commitment to the mission and values of the organization.

Key Responsibilities:

Financial Management:

  • Oversee the day-to-day financial operations of the NGO, including budgeting, cash flow management, and financial reporting.
  • Develop and monitor annual budgets in collaboration with program managers and senior leadership.
  • Ensure compliance with donor financial requirements and reporting deadlines.
  • Implement and maintain strong internal controls to safeguard the organization’s assets and ensure accuracy of financial data.

Grant Management:

  • Manage financial aspects of grants, including budget development, expenditure tracking, and reporting to donors.
  • Work closely with program teams to ensure that grant funds are utilized in accordance with donor regulations and project objectives.

Financial Reporting:

  • Prepare accurate and timely financial reports for internal and external stakeholders, including donors, board of directors, and senior management.
  • Provide analysis of financial data to support decision-making and strategic planning.

Compliance and Risk Management:

  • Ensure compliance with relevant laws, regulations, and organizational policies.
  • Coordinate and support audits, both internal and external, and implement audit recommendations.

Capacity Building and Training:

  • Provide training and support to staff on financial policies, procedures, and systems.
  • Mentor and supervise junior finance staff, fostering their professional growth and development.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Professional certification such as CPA-K or ACCA
  • At least 5 years of progressive experience in financial management, preferably in the non-profit sector or with NGOs.
  • Strong knowledge of non-profit accounting principles, fund accounting, and grant management.
  • Experience working with major donors and managing complex grants.
  • Proficiency in financial software and advanced MS Excel skills.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to effectively collaborate with diverse stakeholders.
  • Commitment to the mission and values of the NGO sector, including promoting transparency, accountability, and social impact.
