Job Description

Lipa Later is a risk free, point of sale credit option that allows retailers to sell goods and services to consumers with repayments made in affordable monthly instalments. It is the leading third party instalment plan for retailers in East Africa currently operating in Kenya and Rwanda. Our product offering allows for both online and offline integration with retailers and both online and offline sales platforms for consumers.

Purpose and Scope: 

The job holder will provide support, guidance, and direction to leaders, line managers, and employees with respect to all people management processes, policies, and procedures in order to support the business’s vision, mission, and overall objectives.

Job Function:

  • Participate in the development of organizational guidelines and procedures.
  • Recommend strategies to motivate employees.
  • Carry out recruitment activities – identifying gaps within teams; helping hiring managers compile job descriptions for vacancies; identifying candidates, conducting interviews, reference checks; negotiating and contracting.
  • Manage employee onboarding and off-boarding process and manage payroll.
  • To partner with business leaders and line managers to drive and implement talent management initiatives for the business, whilst ensuring that all related HR initiatives are implemented and operating at optimal.
  • Drive, measure, track, and improve Performance Management as per the policy and guidelines.
  • Manage growth plans assisting Line Managers and employees in closing the Learning and development needs identified.
  • Engage and partner with the business to understand their needs to develop and implement integrated tactical and operational people plans and solutions in response to business and people challenges.
  • Drive and support the implementation and adoption of various policies and processes using various tools such as facilitating sessions to educate employees and line managers on these practices/policies.
  • Act as a trusted advisor for employee relations issues, constructively engaging with staff and managers regularly with the aim of understanding possible barriers to engagement.
  • Handle all grievances and disciplinary issues arising.
  • Maintain in-depth knowledge of all legal requirements related to the day-to-day management of team members, reducing legal risks and ensuring regulatory compliance; Partner with the legal department as needed.

Requirements

Education & Professional Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field required.
  • Relevant, progressive HR experience, with at least 3 years as a generalist business partner supporting Senior Leadership and Line managers.
  • CHRP or IHRM certification is highly preferred.

  • Very strong EQ and problem-solving skills. Consistently demonstrates sound, trusted judgment.
  • Extremely high level of confidentiality and integrity.
  • Prior experience in a start-up environment.
  • A collaborative approach and willingness to be challenged on the status quo.
  • Proficient in the use of job boards and social media.
  • Well organized; willingness to understand the duties and competencies of different roles.
  • Strong work ethic with the ability to manage and motivate others.
  • Highly motivated, creative, and innovative.
  • Quick decision-making skills with a keen eye for detail.
