Job Description

We are Caribou Digital, a research and advisory firm that helps clients change the world through building inclusive and ethical digital economies. Our team of experts work across a range of sectors and businesses, from startup financing to data analytics, to financial inclusion and the use of space for development, to ensure our clients lead the field in the use of technology to deliver equitable and sustainable development. Our team is experienced, empathetic, pragmatic and direct. We look to the central role startups and large companies alike play in ensuring that digital products, services, and markets unlock human capabilities and drive sustainable growth. Our experience doesn’t stop at one sector because the shift to digital doesn’t stop at one sector.

What you’ll do:

Build trusted relationships with partners and manage engagements with them to generate insights. More specifically:

  • Design, develop, and execute a partner engagement strategy to a) gather insights from partners and b) promote and support peer learning exchange among partners
  • Guide third-party survey research with 7-10 partners based on insights from partner engagement
  • Proactively lead and facilitate periodic learning-oriented check-ins with partners, informed by reviewing their programmatic results and desk research, to distill insights and maintain a current overview of partners’ research and learning activities.
  • Work closely with Project Leads to incorporate learning into partnership deliverables and identify where partners can contribute to the donor’s learning agenda.
  • Organize and lead workshops (virtual and in-person) to facilitate cross-partner learning as well in alignment with the donor’s learning agenda.
  • Serve as point of contact for all partner-related activities and support coordination requests from Caribou Digital and third-party research partner as needed.

Translate and share insights with the donor to support their strategic decision-making processes.

  • Participate in ‘helpdesk’ requests from the donor as they review investment proposals.
  • Participate in monthly and ad-hoc project management calls with the donor.
  • Conduct market and business model-specific desk research.
  • Support the team on logistics for external meetings, such as panels (virtual and in-person).
  • Work on special team projects, strategic and operational, as needed.

Experience and core competencies

  • 7-10 years of work experience establishing and maintaining relationships with partners, grantees, and clients, with demonstrated experience in Sub-Saharan Africa and/or South Asia. Experience working with digital marketplace platforms is a plus.
  • 7-10 years of experience organizing and facilitating workshops or other types of knowledge-sharing sessions.
  • Significant experience focusing on barriers to digital inclusion. Gender barriers experience is preferred.
  • Strong writing and communication skills in English.
  • Demonstrated experience identifying risks and issues, effectively and appropriately escalating them or solving them.
  • Highly organized with strong time management skills.
  • High digital competency, familiar with all the basic collaborative tools and more (e.g., Google Drive, Microsoft Office Suite, Slack, Airtable, knowledge management platforms, etc.).
  • Ability to work in a team setting and flexibility to work across time zones.
  • Respectful of everyone, everywhere, inclusive and supportive of colleagues, and fun to work with.
  • Willing to travel for work trips globally, particularly (but not limited to) Kenya, Rwanda, Ethiopia, Nigeria, Bangladesh, Pakistan, and the USA.
