Senior Program Manager, Clean Energy Access (Productive Use Appliance Financing Facility)

The Senior Manager will oversee CLASP’s flagship Productive Use Appliance Financing Facility, (PUFF or The Facility). The Facility was launched in 2022 to make productive use appliances more affordable to consumers and companies in emerging markets and to bolster the companies providing these life-changing solutions. The Facility is a multi-country results-based financing program, structured to address the challenges early-stage productive use market players face when entering new markets and achieving sustainable scale. The Senior Manager is responsible for leading The Facility, including a team and partners located in Kenya, Nigeria, Ethiopia, Uganda and the US—in collaboration with CLASP’s Senior Director for Africa. They develop and nurture partnerships with stakeholders worldwide, including funders, appliance manufacturers and distributors, and other NGOs. They contribute to overall organizational direction and strategy and lead the strategic direction of CLASP’s finance and subsidy portfolio.

Responsibilities

  • Program Oversight: Working with the team, directing the implementation and delivery of the PUFF Program. Oversee program budget, implementation and staffing plans including the M&E metrics/requirements.
  • Establish and nurture partnerships: Build support among key stakeholders and forge new, impact-focused partnerships, including with sector industry leaders, trade associations, government decision-makers, and donor organizations; with the goal of positioning and scaling our impact.
  • Lead and grow a high-performing team: Supervise and enable the continued growth of a dynamic team of professional staff, facilitate ongoing training and professional development, and identify future staffing and recruiting needs. Work with and through high-performing managers to facilitate continued success.
  • Communication and Advocacy: Work with CLASP’s communications team to design and disseminate compelling stories of program success, research outcomes, lessons learned, etc. Work with colleagues around the world to share plans and strategies. Be a leading strategic voice within and outside of the organization, and bolster PUFF’s brand equity and reputation through both internal and external engagements, e.g. speaking engagements, thought pieces.

Qualifications

  • 10+ years of experience in international program implementation; business- and partnership-development experience preferred.
  • Deep understanding and implementation experience on the use of financial instruments to launch and scale energy markets.
  • Fluency with equity and debt instruments. Experience with fund management is a plus.
  • Experience in distributed renewable energy or related sectors required, with geographic experience in Africa and South Asia, appliance or technology policy experience a plus.
  • Demonstrated experience developing high-impact partnerships.
