Sports & Recreation Officer (One Position)

Job Purpose

  • This position is responsible for the student’s social life, including coordinating student clubs and associations, sports and recreation, drama, music, etc. The aim is to facilitate and promote students’ talents and skills and to provide holistic growth. The role holder will also provide administrative and management aspects of the sports department to include the maintenance of the equipment, facilities, recreational items and uniforms.

Requirements for appointment to this position:

  • Must be a committed Christian
  • A Bachelor’s degree in a sports-related field, such as sports science, physical education, or sports management.
  • Relevant work experience in sports management, administration, physical education, or sports coaching
  • Knowledge of leisure, sports, and recreation activities, as well as hazard management and health and safety planning
  • The ability to manage complex logistical operations
  • The ability to collaborate effectively with various stakeholders
  • A Ministry of the Africa Gospel Church
  • Proficiency in sports management software and technology

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide leadership to all the social activities of the students held on or off campus to include formation, registration, functions and coordination of sports, clubs and associations.
  • Survey students’ interests in sports, recreation and clubs and organize them to participate in new or existing co-curricular activities on and off campus for personal development, competition as well as to market the University.
  • Represent University interests and needs in sports, music meetings, seminars and conferences e.g., KUSF, EAUSF, KUSA.
  • Plan training programs and coordinate team entries and participation in various activities including friendlies and competitions both locally and internationally.
  • Facilitate the provision of equipment, materials and facilities for all co-curricular activities (outdoor and indoor) and oversee their effective use and maintenance.
  • Administer the system for storage, maintenance, issue and return of school sport and physical recreation uniforms and equipment
  • Facilitate the provision of First Aid and emergency medical needs of injured students participating in approved sports activities and co-curricular programs.
  • Follow up on construction and development of sport & recreation facilities (outdoor & indoor activities) on campus to ensure requisite standards are met. The facilities should be well maintained, clean and in good working condition all the time.
  • Maintain up-to-date periodical as well as annual students’ activity plans, inventory records, reports and budgets.
  • Evaluate and monitor sports and recreation activities using performance indicators to ensure continuous improvement of the student activities, thus active student participation.
  • Ensure that students are informed and adhere to all policies, rules and regulations governing their social lives as stipulated in the student’s handbook. This includes dressing for social activities.
  • Keep an updated database of rules and regulations of all the sports games and disseminate them to the various sports teams.
  • Handle minor disciplinary cases among the students regarding their social life and escalate major issues to the Dean of Students.
  • A Ministry of the Africa Gospel Church Chair all the meetings of the Sports and recreation committee to plan, schedule and implement an annual activity calendar for all social activities of the students and participate in any other committees as may be required.
  • Plan and manage the logistics needed to handle the inter-school competitions. This involves the communication and raising requisitions of the needed materials.
  • Attend Regional Sports Coordinators’ meetings where KHU would have an interest like KNFTCU.
  • Coordinate team entries and payment of fees to any relevant sports bodies to which KHU is a party.
  • Assist recruit competent sports coaches and trainers for recreational activities like Choir, drama etc
  • Provide supervision roles to all the coaches and trainers and ensure that they are performing their duties as per the contracts including their code of conduct.
  • Follow through the claim forms for the coaches to ensure that they are completed accurately according to the time worked and that they are approved for payment in a timely manner.
  • Perform other duty/s that may be assigned by management from time to time.
