This-Ability is a social enterprise focused on advancing Disability Rights and Inclusion in Kenya. Our team combines business strategy and social entrepreneurship with a passion for disability rights. We work to provide technical support and assistance to strengthen disability rights and inclusion in Kenya. We also work on inclusive supply and demand approaches to design and implement strategies and innovative business approaches that are profitable, scalable and eradicate the challenges faced by women and girls with disabilities in mainstream development.

Research and Advocacy Consultant

Scope of Work
The consultant will undertake the following tasks:

  • Conduct quarterly research on key SRHR and disability inclusion issues, policies, and best practices.
  • Develop and refine an advocacy strategy that aligns with evidence-based research and organizational goals.
  • Identify key stakeholders for policy advocacy and partnership, including government agencies, policymakers, disability rights organizations, healthcare providers, and community-based organizations.
  • Perform data analysis to identify trends, gaps, and opportunities for advocacy interventions.
  • Develop advocacy materials such as policy briefs, reports, fact sheets, and position papers.
  • Engage stakeholders, including policymakers, government agencies, and civil society organizations, to advocate for disability-inclusive SRHR policies.
  • Identify emerging trends and provide recommendations for strengthening advocacy strategies.
  • Support the organization in organizing advocacy events, campaigns, and knowledge-sharing forums.
  • Conduct capacity-building sessions for staff and partners on research methodologies, data analysis, and advocacy techniques.
  • Monitor and evaluate the impact of advocacy initiatives and provide periodic progress reports.

Deliverables

  • Quarterly Research Reports on disability-inclusive SRHR topics.
  • A comprehensive Advocacy Strategy Document informed by research and data analysis.
  • Stakeholder Mapping Report identifying key actors for policy advocacy and partnership.
  • Data Analysis Reports identifying key insights for policy engagement.
  • Advocacy materials, including policy briefs, position papers, and fact sheets.
  • Stakeholder Engagement Reports summarizing key advocacy actions and outcomes.
  • Training sessions for staff and partners on research, data analysis, and advocacy.
  • Quarterly Advocacy Impact Assessment Reports.

Duration and Frequency
The consultancy is expected to run for one year, with quarterly research and advocacy deliverables in March, June, September, and December. The contract may be renewed based on performance and organizational needs.

Reporting and Accountability
The consultant will report to the Managing Trustee and the Advocacy and Research Committee. Regular meetings will be held to track progress and address emerging challenges.

Required Qualifications and Experience

  • Advanced degree in Public Health, Social Sciences, Human Rights, Data Analysis, or a related field.
  • At least five years of experience in research, advocacy, and data analysis, preferably in SRHR and disability inclusion.
  • Strong knowledge of disability rights frameworks, SRHR policies, and global best practices.
  • Expertise in qualitative and quantitative data analysis, with the ability to translate findings into advocacy strategies.
  • Excellent analytical, writing, and communication skills.
  • Experience working with policymakers, government agencies, and civil society organizations.
  • Proven experience in stakeholder mapping and engagement for policy advocacy.
  • Ability to work independently and produce high-quality, evidence-based advocacy materials.

 

Internal Audit and Risk Consultant

Scope of Work
The consultant will undertake the following tasks:

  • Conduct quarterly internal audits to assess financial integrity, operational efficiency, and compliance with internal policies and external regulations.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of risk management strategies, including financial, operational, and reputational risks.
  • Identify gaps and recommend improvements in internal controls and governance structures.
  • Review financial transactions, grant management, procurement, and payroll to detect irregularities.
  • Assess compliance with disability inclusion policies and donor requirements.
  • Provide quarterly audit reports with actionable recommendations.
  • Conduct training sessions for staff on internal controls and risk mitigation strategies.

Deliverables

  • Quarterly Internal Audit Reports detailing findings, risks, and recommendations.
  • Risk Assessment Reports identifying key organizational risks and mitigation strategies.
  • Compliance Review Reports assessing adherence to financial policies, donor requirements, and regulatory frameworks.
  • Capacity-building workshops for staff on financial management and risk mitigation.

  • Knowledge of disability-inclusive policies and practices is an added advantage.
  • Strong analytical, communication, and report-writing skills.
  • Ability to work independently and provide objective, data-driven recommendations.

 

Monitoring, Evaluation, Assessment, and Learning (MEAL) Consultant

The MEAL Consultant will support the organization in strengthening its monitoring, evaluation, assessment, and learning mechanisms. The consultant will provide independent, data-driven insights to improve program effectiveness, inform decision-making, and ensure adaptive learning across the organization’s disability-inclusive SRHR initiatives.

Scope of Work

The MEAL Consultant will be responsible for the following key tasks on a quarterly basis:

Monitoring and Evaluation

  • Review and refine the internal MEAL framework for disability-inclusive SRHR programs.
  • Assess program activities, outputs, and outcomes against established indicators.
  • Conduct field visits and stakeholder consultations (as needed) to evaluate program effectiveness.
  • Analyze data collection systems and recommend improvements.

Assessment and Reporting

  • Conduct quarterly evaluations to assess program impact and identify gaps.
  • Compile and analyze data to provide evidence-based recommendations.
  • Develop quarterly MEAL reports for internal and external stakeholders.

Learning and Adaptation

  • Facilitate quarterly learning sessions with staff to review program progress, successes, and challenges.
  • Document best practices, lessons learned, and case studies to inform future programming.
  • Ensure the integration of disability-inclusive approaches in all MEAL activities.

Capacity Building and Stakeholder Engagement

  • Provide periodic training and guidance to staff on MEAL tools and methodologies.
  • Engage with partners, beneficiaries, and stakeholders to collect feedback and enhance participatory approaches.
  • Promote a culture of continuous improvement and adaptive learning across the organization.

Deliverables

  • Quarterly MEAL reports with key findings, insights, and recommendations.
  • Updated indicator tracking matrix and program impact data.
  • Documentation of lessons learned and best practices.

Consultancy Requirements

  • Advanced degree in Monitoring & Evaluation, Public Health, Social Sciences, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in MEAL roles within the non-profit or development sector, preferably in SRHR or Disability Inclusion.
  • Demonstrated expertise in developing and implementing MEAL frameworks.
  • Strong analytical skills, including experience with data visualization and statistical software (e.g., SPSS, Excel, Power BI).
  • Proven track record in facilitating learning sessions and capacity-building initiatives.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating with diverse teams.

 

Impact Assessment Consultant- Disability-Inclusive Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) Nonprofit Organization

Purpose and Objectives of the Impact Assessment
The primary purpose of the quarterly impact assessment is to evaluate the effectiveness, efficiency, and sustainability of This Ability’s SRHR programs at regular intervals. The objectives of the assessment include:

  • Assessing the extent to which our programs have improved SRHR access and outcomes for women and girls with disabilities on a quarterly basis.
  • Identifying strengths, weaknesses, and areas for improvement in program design, implementation, and delivery.
  • Evaluating the inclusivity and accessibility of our services for women and girls with disabilities.
  • Measuring program sustainability and long-term impact on these communities.
  • Providing evidence-based recommendations to enhance program effectiveness and scalability.

Scope of Work
The consultant will be responsible for:

  • Conducting quarterly reviews of program documents, reports, and relevant policies.
  • Engaging in stakeholder consultations, including beneficiaries (women and girls with disabilities), implementing partners, policymakers, and staff.
  • Designing and implementing data collection methodologies (e.g., surveys, focus groups, key informant interviews) on a quarterly basis with a specific focus on the experiences of women and girls with disabilities.
  • Analyzing qualitative and quantitative data to assess program impact.
  • Identifying best practices and lessons learned from each quarter.
  • Providing quarterly impact assessment reports with findings, conclusions, and actionable recommendations.

Methodology
The consultant is expected to use a mixed-methods approach, combining qualitative and quantitative data collection techniques, including:

  • Desk review of program documents, policies, and reports.
  • Surveys and interviews with women and girls with disabilities and key stakeholders.
  • Field visits (where applicable) to assess program implementation.
  • Comparative analysis of baseline and post-intervention data collected quarterly.

Deliverables and Timeline
The consultant will be required to deliver the following outputs on a quarterly basis:

  • Quarterly Inception Report (Week 1 of each quarter): Outlining methodology, work plan, and key indicators.
  • Quarterly Data Collection Report (Week 4 of each quarter): Summary of initial findings from data collection activities.
  • Quarterly Draft Impact Assessment Report (Week 6 of each quarter): Preliminary analysis and recommendations.
  • Quarterly Final Impact Assessment Report (Week 8 of each quarter): Comprehensive report incorporating feedback and final recommendations.
  • Quarterly Presentation of Findings (Week 9 of each quarter): A stakeholder workshop to discuss results and next steps.

Consultant Qualifications and Experience
The ideal consultant should possess:

  • Advanced degree in public health, social sciences, monitoring & evaluation, or a related field.
  • At least 5-7 years of experience in impact evaluation and assessments, preferably in SRHR and disability inclusion.
  • Proven experience conducting qualitative and quantitative research.
  • Strong knowledge of disability-inclusive development and rights-based approaches, particularly as they relate to women and girls with disabilities.
  • Excellent analytical, communication, and report-writing skills.
  • Familiarity with ethical considerations in disability-inclusive research, with a gender-sensitive approach.
