Job Description

The United Nations Environment Programme (UN Environment) is the leading global environmental authority that sets the world’s environmental agenda, promotes the coherent implementation of the environmental dimension of sustainable development within the United Nations system and serves as an authoritative advocate for the environment.

Communication and Multimedia

Responsibilities

The intern will work with the RSB and support the overall technical and coordination needs related to the implementation of the Branch’s projects and programmes, as well as assist in coordinating activities across the 18 Regional Seas. Under the direct supervision of the Coordinator, the intern will:

  • Draft and produce communication materials in different formats, for example, Regional Seas newsletters, website articles, social media content, briefs, talking points, speeches and human-interest stories.
  • Develop and edit multimedia content like photos, videos, infographics, presentations, and other visibility materials that support Regional Seas communication outputs.
  • Support the planning and delivery of communication campaigns and visibility efforts for key events, including the Regional Seas global meetings, World Cleanup Day, and United Nations Climate Change Conference.
  • Support the sharing of communication products through digital platforms, media outlets, and partner networks, while updating and maintaining Regional Seas communication platforms by uploading news, events, and publications and keeping the content and editorial plan up to date.
  • Perform other duties to support the work of the Branch, as requested and in accordance with the Intern’s interests.

Qualifications/special skills

  • Applicants must, at the time of application, meet one of the following requirements: – Be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher);
  • Be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent);
  • Have graduated with a university degree in journalism and communications, media production, graphic design, information technology, or a related field. In addition:
  • Demonstrate pleasant interpersonal skills.
  • Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, including a willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.
  • Has a keen interest in the work of the United Nations and has a personal commitment to the ideals of the UN Charter. Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work experience.
  • However, a field of study that is closely related to the type of internship that you are applying for is required. Please explain how you meet this criterion using examples.

Power Platform Consultant

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Participate as a team member in business automation initiatives to streamline work processes using platforms such as PowerApps, Power Flows, and Jira.
  • Develop detailed system schemas, data dictionaries, functional specifications, and user documentation.
  • Gather and document users’ requirements and translate these into innovative digital applications; determine application systems integration and linkage issues.
  • Work as a team member of developers, particularly in implementing PHP and PowerApps solutions and related back-end MySQL, Dataverse, and MS SQL databases.
  • Maintain, upgrade, or enhance existing systems; troubleshoot and provide continuing user support.
  • Drafts correspondence and communications, including technical support communication and other related issues; coordinates with service providers as required and maintains and supports a portfolio of applications.
  • Keeps abreast of developments in the field; conducts research on new technologies and assists in implementing them.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

Qualifications/special skills

  • High school diploma or equivalent is required for this position.
  • The minimum years of relevant experience is reduced to one (1) for candidates who possess a first-level university degree or higher. Additional training and a technical or vocational certificate in information technology or other related areas are desirable.
  • A minimum of three (3) years of experience in software development, Web application design and development, technical requirement documentation, or related areas is required. The minimum years of relevant experience is reduced to one (1) for candidates who possess a first-level university degree or higher. Work experience in Low-Cod/No Code application development, APIs, and DevOps are highly desirable..

Monitoring and Reporting

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Monitor and review the implementation progress of RSB activities and projects, as well as the 18 Regional Seas activities related to the Regional Seas Coordination Project, and assist with monthly reporting and biannual reporting in the Integrated Planning Monitoring and Reporting (IPMR) system.
  • Assist with the compilation of technical content for UNEP’s regular reporting on RSP activities (e.g., UNEA Resolutions, Programme Performance Reviews, Executive Director’s reports, UN General Assembly reports, or donor reports) by collecting and consolidating inputs from the 18 Regional Seas under the guidance of the supervisor.
  • Assist with facilitating the submission of reporting, including following up on reporting requirements, templates, timelines, and other related requests.
  • Track, maintain, and update reporting inputs and activity records from the 18 Regional Seas, based on the separate reporting requests, to provide to the RSB.
  • Support the development of communication materials and collaborate with the 18 Regional Seas, relevant divisions, and partners to request and consolidate case studies, best practices, reviews, and other relevant materials.
  • Provide administrative and logistical support to meetings, workshops, conferences, etc., including preparing background documents and presentations and taking notes as needed.
  • Perform other duties to support the work of the branch, as requested and in accordance with the intern’s interests.

Qualifications/special skills

Intern – Information Technology (IT)​

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Support preparation in website updates
  • Adding and editing accredited organizations to the website
  • Uploading documents to repository
  • Editing contents of civil society webpages
  • Support Registration processes of the various meetings including working on the list of participants
  • Develop and conduct a Series of Client Satisfaction Survey – including analyses to feedback to the clientele – especially the Committee of Permanent Representatives.
  • Draft Accreditation Memos for organizations that have submitted accreditation requests for review
  • Support effective communications with accredited UNEP Major Groups and Stakeholders in line with UN mandates and guidelines.
  • Support the day-to-day management of internal Major Groups and Stakeholders databases;
  • Other tasks, as requested.

Qualifications/special skills

  • Undergraduate studies in either of these Computer Science, Information Technology, Information Systems, Data Analytics, Software Engineering, Data science, Cyber Security;
  • Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher) b. Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum bachelor’s level or equivalent);
  • Have graduated with a university degree Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work. experience. However, a field of study that is closely related to the type of internship that you are applying for is required.
  • Applicants must be a student in the final year of the first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), Master’s or Ph.D. Programme or equivalent, or have completed a Bachelor’s, Master’s or PH.D.
