Principal Livestock Policy Research and Regulations Officer – 24 Posts

Duties and responsibilities will involve: –
Livestock Sector surveys, livestock and livestock products data collection; livestock data analysis ; carrying out relevant policy related research; developing and maintaining a data bank compendium of information on policies and corresponding legislation relevant to the livestock sector; disseminating approved relevant livestock data; conducting capacity needs assessment, problem identification for policy formulation, development and monitoring standards and regulations; participating in research agenda setting and monitoring implementation; surveillance on compliance with implementation of livestock regulations, legislations and standards ; leading livestock innovation hubs; preparing materials for public awareness creation on policies and legislations; generating policy briefs; participating in developing concept papers for policy formulation; updating the existing database on livestock policies for counties and national government; manning thematic functions in the Livestock Knowledge Management Centre; generating data and dissemination of information on the Livestock Masterplan, capacity building and technical support to counties and any other assignments assigned.
For appointment to this grade, an officer must have; –
- Have served in the grade of Veterinary Officer or Senior Livestock Production Officer JG L (CSG 9) or in a comparable position for a minimum period of three (3) years;
- Bachelor’s degree in any of the following fields: – Veterinary Medicine, Animal Production, Range Management or its equivalent qualification in animal sciences from a recognized institution;
- Been registered by Kenya Veterinary Board (for Veterinary Surgeons) any other professional body for animal sciences where relevant; or or iv. Certificate in Policy Formulation, Implementation and Evaluation equivalent lasting not less than one (1) week from a recognized institution; v. Certificate in a Management related Course lasting not less than four (4) weeks from a recognized institution;
- Certificate in computer applications from a recognized institution; and vii. Have shown ability and demonstrated merit as reflected in work performance and results.

Duties and Responsibilities –
Duties and responsibilities at this level will entail ;participating in research on new technology in curing, storage,tanning and tanning chemicals in liaison with other stake holders ;implementing policy directives in respect to hides, skins, leather and leather goods production and trade ;inspecting commercial tanneries and making recommendation for registration ;organizing the transfer of appropriate technology to stakeholders; coordinating the monitoring of production trends of leather and leather products ;participating in development of hides, skins and leather policies and programmes in liaison with relevant stakeholders; planning for appropriate trainings and demonstrations on best practices to stakeholders for production of high quality hides,skins and leather products; developing programmes for promoting the processing manufacture and exportation of value-added leather products; compiling final technical reports on leather development matters; advising investors on the requirements for establishing small to medium scale commercial tanneries; and advising tanners and traders on proper waste disposal from tanneries and hides and skins curing premises.
Requirements for Appointment
For appointment to this grade, an officer must have; –
- Served in the grade of Chief Assistant Leather Development Officer for a minimum period of three (3) years;
- Diploma in any of the following disciplines Leather Technology,
- Footwear Technology or Leather Goods Design and Development from a recognised institution;
OR
- Diploma in Animal Health or Environmental Resource Management /Science, plus a two years’ certificate in Hides and Skins Improvement or Leather Technology;
- Certificate in Management Course lasting not less than four (4) weeks from a recognised institution;
- Certificate in computer application from a recognised institution; and
- Demonstrated supervisory and administrative ability in work performance and results.
Laboratory Technician III – 10 Posts

Animal Health
Duties and responsibilities at this level will entail: cleaning and sterilizing laboratory glass ware, surfaces and equipment; preparing media, stains and dyes; collecting, receiving, recording packaging, dispatching, analyzing and preserving test samples and disposing laboratory waste.
Requirements for Appointment
For appointment to this grade, a candidate must have: –
- Certificate in any of the following fields; Laboratory Science, Laboratory Technology or medical laboratory technology from a recognised institution,

Duties and responsibilities will involve; demonstrating to traders and skin flayers on the approximate methods of flaying, cleaning, curing and storage of hides and skins; ensuring that the hides and skins are delivered to the curing premises immediately after flaying; collecting hides and skins data on production, grading and defects and issuing dispatch notes to facilitate movement of hides and skins as a disease control measure.

- Be in possession of a two-year Certificate in either Hides and Skins Improvement or Leather Technology from a recognized institution; and

This is the entry grade for Housekeeping Assistants cadre. An officer at this level will be on job training and will perform tasks under the guidance of a senior officer. Duties at this level will include: dusting and cleaning rcoms and corridors; spreading beds; washing cleaning materials and equipment; replenishing cleaning materials and supplies; washing linen; washing guest laundry; ironing guest laundry and linen; and ensuring proper storage of all equipment used.
For appointment to this grade, a candidate must have; –
- Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) mean grade ‘D’ plain or its equivalent qualification from a recognized institution; and
- Formal training lasting not less than two months in housekeeping and or laundry or its equivalent qualification from a recognized institution.

An This is the entry grade into the Scheme of Animal Husbandry Assistant. officer at this level will work under the guidance of more experienced officers. Duties and responsibilities will entail; Grazing, feeding and herding animals, identifying and reporting sick animals and animals on heat, maintaining cleanliness and disinfecting the livestock structures, maintaining animal fodder/garden, milking dairy animals, restraining animals during milking, docking, bleeding and other livestock routine management, reporting animal status.
For appointment to this grade, an officer must have; –
- A form four certificate grade D
- First Aid skills lasting not less than (1) week from a recognized institution
- Proficiency in computer application
- Should be physically fit
