Job Description

Aga Khan University Hospitals in Karachi, Pakistan and Nairobi, Kenya are private, not-for-profit institutions providing high quality health care. The Main Hospitals serve as the principal sites for clinical training for the University’s Medical Colleges and Schools of Nursing and Midwifery in Pakistan and East Africa.

Counselling Psychologist, Counselling

Job Purpose:

  • To provide psychological support and therapeutical interventions to clients in areas related to the field of counselling & clinical psychology.  This is in line with the overall institutional aims of providing quality care with compassion and within an ethical framework.
  • Identify and diagnose psychological, emotional and behavioural issues
  • Develop and implement treatment plans and therapeutic processes
  • Help clients explore and identify goals and formulate action plans to achieve personal, social, educational and vocational development
  • Monitor client progress through regular follow-up sessions

Key responsibilities:

  • Provide psychological Support to clients experiencing “life-issues such as trauma, end-of-life, illness, etc.
  • Counselling for trauma/ grief and loss, acute and chronic illness, and mental health issues
  • Support the employee-assisted program (EAP) of the HR department by providing staff with psychological support.
  • Staff training and development:  Conduct training activities within departments that contribute towards meeting the institutional & departmental goals

 Qualifications, experience and Skills required:

  • Registration with the Ministry of Health in Kenya with a valid Practice Licence
  • A master’s degree in counselling/clinical psychology
  • Theoretical education in counselling (e.g. Undergraduate in Counselling)
  • Diploma or above in counselling/nursing in a medical context
  • Additional training in fields that can complement the role of counselling (e.g. Trauma, chronic illness, death & dying)
  • Minimum 2 years work experience
  • Experience in a medical setting
  • Knowledge of human emotional social and psychological challenges
  • High ethical and moral principles -beyond reproach with a professional approach
  • Capable of being a role model in the organisation and in society
  • Team player with a willingness to learn

 

Pharmaceutical Technologist, Outreach Clinic-Mountain View

Responsibilities:

  • Receive, verify prescriptions and dispense drugs in a timely manner within approved standards and procedures.
  • Contact the physician immediately for inaccuracy and illegibility in a prescription order, document errors and communicate them to the nursing and pharmacy staff
  • Verify expiry dates of drugs prior to dispensing medication to patients/customers.
  • Check that every label placed on the medications contains the correct patient name, drug, quantity and directions.
  • Counsel patients on drug administration and use of devices for optimum wellness and recovery.
  • Receive, return and update drug credits on the system in a timely manner.
  • Communicate out of stock and non-stock effectively and timely to prescriber and nurse and provide alternative choice or make arrangements to order promptly.
  • Comply and observe the environmental health and safety measures and regulations by proper handling, storage and dispensation of medications
  • Record, monitor and update the expiry list of medications in timely manner.
  • Complete documentation of Interventions, Medication errors and Near Miss, Adverse events, Medication queries, Patient complaints or any other incidents and forward to relevant office
  • Perform random medication checks daily and Monitor variance levels in your respective satellites.
  • Compile daily satellite reports.
  • Carry out regular satellite stock-take exercise.
  • Report any special indicators allocated.

Requirements:

  • Diploma in Pharmaceutical Technology from a recognized institution
  • Registered with The Kenya Pharmaceutical Association
  • Practicing License from the Pharmacy and Poisons Board.
  • 2 year working experience in a busy facility, preferably a hospital
  • Valid Basic Life Support Certificate (BLS)

Job Purpose/Summary 

AKU is building an AI-enabled product to address the challenges of low- and middle-income countries (LMICs). As part of the office of the Chief Data Innovation Officer (CDIO), you will work at the intersection of data science, AI, and product development to shape and deliver high-impact GenAI tools.

We are seeking a Data Scientist / Analyst who brings strong technical skills in machine learning and NLP, and is eager to take on full stack development responsibilities. You will work closely with engineering and academic teams, and design stakeholders to co-develop product features, define data workflows, and deploy AI-enabled tools that serve both academic excellence and social development.

Key Roles and Responsibilities 

  • Design, train, evaluate, and refine LLM-based workflows and data pipelines.
  • Define features, user stories, and manage backlog. Coordinate agile sprints.
  • Ensure training and inference datasets are complete, accurate, and relevant.
  • Engage with domain experts, faculty, and operations teams to gather feedback.
  • Conduct A/B testing, collect usability feedback, optimize UX in GenAI outputs.
  • Document data lineage, model decisions, and ensure privacy and security.
  • Publish learnings, contribute to internal workshops, stay current in GenAI.

Relevant Experience and Qualifications

  • BSc or MSc in Data Science, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related quantitative field.
  • A proven track record in building and shipping successful analytics software products at scale at a high-growth, high-tech company.
  • 2+ years of experience in a data science or engineering role.
  • Experience with GenAI or NLP techniques (e.g., transformers, prompt engineering).
  • Background in building data-driven products using agile methodologies.
  • Proficient in Python, SQL, ML libraries (scikit-learn, Transformers, LangChain, etc.)
  • Familiarity with BI tools (e.g., Power BI), and data versioning / MLOps pipelines.

Laboratory Technologist, Microbiology Section
