Job Description
Alupe University College (AUC), which is a Constituent College of Moi University, is one of the newest University Colleges in the Country. It was established through the Alupe Legal Order Gazette Notice No 163 of 24th July 2015. Its Council was constituted vide special gazette notice No.136 of 7th November 2016.
Senior Lecturer – Geotechnical/ Mineral Processing
Minimum Qualification and Experience
For appointment to this grade, a candidate must have: –
- An earned PhD or equivalent degree qualification (or a Master’s degree qualification in special cases) in the relevant area from recognized and accredited university;
- At least three (3) years teaching / research experience at the university level as a Lecturer/Research Fellow or six (6) years research / industry experience;
- A minimum of thirty-two (32) publication points as a Lecturer or equivalent of which twenty-four (24) should be from refereed scholarly journals;
- Supervised at least three (3) postgraduate students to completion as a Lecturer/Research Fellow;
- Be registered or registrable with the relevant professional body (where applicable);
- Proficiency in Computer Applications; and
- Demonstrated potential for teaching and research.
Duties and Responsibilities at this level entails: –
- Lecturing specific units of specialization in accordance with the curriculum;
- Preparing students progress reports;
- Carrying out research work in relevant field or specialization;
- Conducting seminars/workshops or symposia;
- Coordinating of courses, projects and practical work;
- Preparing teaching/learning materials
- Setting, invigilating and marking examination/assignments;
- Developing proposals to attract research grants;
- Writing journal articles and books;
- Presenting academic papers in conferences / seminars / workshops or symposia;
- Peer-reviewing of publications in academic journals;
- Developing and reviewing academic programmes / curricula;
- Supervising Lecturers, Tutorial / Junior Research Fellows, and students;
- Developing linkages and collaborations for student exchange programmes; and
- Undertaking consultancy services and community engagement.
Tutorial Fellow – Medical Laboratory Sciences (MLS)
Minimum Qualification and Experience
For appointment to this grade, a candidate must have: –
- Bachelor’s degree from a recognized and accredited university in the relevant field;
- Master’s degree from a recognized and accredited University in the relevant field;
- Registered or Registerable for a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) or equivalent Doctoral degree qualification;
- Be registered or registrable with the relevant professional body (where applicable);
- Proficiency in Computer Applications; and
- Demonstrated potential for teaching and research.

- Cumulative service period of three (3) years’ relevant work experience at the grade of Library Assistant III or in a comparable position;
- Diploma in Library studies or Information Science or equivalent qualifications from accredited examination body;
- Proficiency in computer applications; and
- Demonstrated merit and ability as reflected in work performance and results.
Duties and responsibilities at this level will entail: –
- Accessioning all new books;
- Classifying and cataloguing books;
- Preparing and filing catalogue cards for books;
- Compiling accessions list’ for books and dispatch to all technical officers;
- Conducting orientation and registering new patrons
- Filling of borrowing cards;
- Sending reminder notices for overdue publications;
- Updating the catalogue;
- Photocopying gazette notices with published standards and circulating to quality control officers;
- Ensuring that shelves are tidy, and publications are filed in their right places;
- Receiving newspapers and magazines and maintaining their records;
- Compiling overdue materials lists;
- Update fines’ records of user accounts;
- Manning the circulation area;
- Assisting in providing reference information services;
- Providing Library user education; and
- Library clearance of students and staff.
Internal Auditor II – 2 Posts
Minimum Qualification and Experience
For appointment to this grade, a candidate must have: –
- Bachelor’s Degree in Commerce, Finance, Accounting or equivalent qualifications from a recognized University;
- CPA (K) or CIA (Certified Internal Audit) or CISA (Certified Information System Auditor) certificate;
- Three (3) years’ work experience as an Internal Audit Assistant in a University OR six (6) years’ work experience in a comparable Institution;
- Member of ICPAK/IIA and in good standing;
- Proficiency in computer applications; and
- Demonstrated merit and ability as reflected in work performance and results.
Duties and responsibilities at this level will entail: –
- Supporting internal audit teams in carrying out audits of Departments/ Sections of the University.
- Conducting investigations and special audits where applicable.
- Reviewing of audit systems and procedures in the University.
- Implement audit policies, guidelines rules and regulations while carrying audits.
- Participate in the development and implementation of audit work plans and budget.
- Appraise, summarize and discuss of audit findings with relevant Departments and/or sections.
- Preparation of annual auditors reports for all audited accounts in the University.
- Verify and scrutinize the books of accounts and provide appropriate advice.
- Facilitate follow up audits on outstanding audit issues to confirm if corrective actions as recommended have been taken.
- Issue primary audit reports, queries and observations.

- Must have three (3) years relevant experience as an Administrative Assistant or in a comparable position;

Secretary – 2 Posts
Minimum Qualification and Experience
For appointment to this grade, a candidate must have:
- Diploma in Secretarial Studies with three (3) years’ working experience;
OR
- Stage III Single and Group certificates with nine (9) years working experience;
OR
- Bachelor’s degree in any of the following disciplines: Secretarial Studies, Business Office Management, Business Management or equivalent qualifications from a recognized and accredited institution;
- Proficiency in computer applications; and
- Demonstrated merit and ability as reflected in work performance and results.
Duties and responsibilities at this level will entail: –
- Taking oral dictation;
- Word and data processing;

Senior Clerical Officer
Minimum Qualification and Experience
For appointment to this grade, a candidate must have:
- Must have three (3) years relevant experience as a Clerk in a busy central registry or in a comparable position;
- Must have a Bachelor’s Degree in Archives and Records Management or related field;
- Proficiency in computer applications; and
- Demonstrated merit and ability as reflected in work performance and results.
Duties and Responsibilities at this level will entail: –
- Formulate classification scheme for records as per ISO procedures through interpretation of work instruction in line with records management policies;
- Coordinate information flow by establishing tracking system to ensure accurate location of records at all times;
- Establish and maintains active, continuing programme for the economical and efficient management of the records of the university by maintaining and updating departmental correspondence files and personnel records;
- Facilitate adherence of the retention and disposal schedule used in the University for the Records Control;
- Appraise records periodically to weed out the ephemerals to ensure preservation, filling and accessibility of records in the university;
- Coordinate office supplies and maintenance of office equipment by monitoring housekeeping, office arrangement and stock control in the department;
- Receive and route incoming correspondence by organizing filing systems and coordination of file circulation; and
- Dispatch of the outgoing correspondence in the university.
Clerical Officer III – 3 Posts
Minimum Qualification and Experience
For appointment to this grade, a candidate must have:
- Must have Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) mean grade of D (Plain);
- Must have a certificate in records management;
- Must have relevant support training in clerical duties;
- Proficiency in computer applications; and
- Demonstrated merit and ability as reflected in work performance and results.
Duties and responsibilities at this level will entail: –
- Coordinating clerical work in a section;
- Compiling and computing financial or statistical records from sources of data;
- Validating compiled data and records for accuracy and reporting;
- Verifying digitized records for accuracy;
- Processing documents;
- Ensuring stores, records and equipment inventory are well maintained;
- Ensuring proper maintenance of filing system
Messenger/ Cleaner – 2 Posts
Minimum Qualification and Experience
For appointment to this grade, a candidate must have:
- Must have Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) mean grade of D (Plain); and
- Must have one (1) year relevant work experience as a cleaner.
Duties and responsibilities at this level will entail: –
- Perform various cleaning activities such as; dusting, sweeping and mopping;
- Emptying trash cans;
- Washing and drying windows;
- Reporting any breakages that occur during the cleaning process; and
- Ordering new cleaning supplies as need.
Grounds Man – 4 Posts
Minimum Qualification and Experience
For appointment to this grade, a candidate must have: –
- Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) mean grade D (plain) or equivalent qualification from a recognized and accredited institution; and
- Proficiency in computer applications.
Duties and responsibilities at this level will entail: –
- Cutting grass within the University premises;
- Clearing blocked drainage, clearing roads and foot paths within the University;
- Collecting garbage and unwanted materials within the University;
- Planting and weeding of trees, flowers and cutting of hedges in the University;
- Taking custody of all tools and equipment assigned to you;
