Job Description

The Capital Markets Authority (CMA) is a statutory agency charged with the responsibility of regulating and developing efficient Capital Markets in Kenya.

Student Attachment – Research & Analytics

Reporting to the Senior Manager Research and Analytics, the candidate will be responsible for:

Attachment Period: 3 months (non-renewable)

  • Assist in collecting and organizing data for analysis and reporting;
  • Support data entry, cleaning, and verification to ensure accuracy;
  • Help in preparing basic data summaries, charts, and reports;
  • Participate in identifying simple data trends and patterns; and
  • Assist in maintaining databases and proper documentation of datasets.

Minimum Qualifications and Experience

  • A continuing student pursuing a Bachelors Degree in Mathematics/Economics/Computer Science/Information Management or Statistics or any other relevant degree

Temporary Assistant – Licensing 

TEMPORARY ASSISTANT-LICENSING – 1 POSITION

Contract Period: Six (6) Months Fixed Term Contract

Reporting to the Manager, Licensing the selected candidate will be responsible for:

  • Reviewing applications for licensing of market institutions and intermediaries for compliance with the Regulatory requirements;
  • Carrying out fitness and probity checks of proposed directors and key personnel of licensed entities.
  • Conducting premise inspection of firms applying for a license;
  • Reviewing relevant notices, announcements and advertisements by licensed entities and making recommendations of their suitability for publication;
  • Conducting research in matters affecting the development and changes in the Kenyan capital markets institutional arrangement in liaison with relevant stakeholder;
  • Keeping and updating databases relating to applications for licensing and other assignments within the department;
  • Updating the status of all outstanding licensing applications received by the division, in liaison with officers from other divisions of the department; and
  • Reviewing of applications for admission into the regulatory sandbox to test innovations.

Minimum Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Law; and
  • Minimum of one year of relevant experience will be an added advantage.

Temporary Assistant – Financial Analysis

TEMPORARY ASSISTANT – FINANCIAL ANALYSIS _ 1 POSITION

Reporting to Senior Financial Analyst and will be responsible for conducting analysis and interpreting financial and other information of license applications by market intermediaries, exchanges and other products to be licensed by the Authority to ensure compliance with the Capital Markets Legal and Regulatory framework and other applicable standards.

Contract Period: Six (6) Months Fixed Term Contract

Key responsibilities for the position:

  • Comparing financial statements submitted to the Authority by licensees with those published on daily Newspapers and highlighting any inconsistencies
  • Reviewing financial statements of licensees and approved institutions for indicators and incidents of financial fraud, fraudulent market operations and recommending administrative and legal sanctions in line with CMA requirements
  • Reviewing of audited and other periodic financial statements of market intermediaries and approved institutions to assess continued compliance with legal and regulatory requirements, International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) and other applicable standards; Maintaining and updating databases relating to financial data, analysis reports and conduct trend analysis.
  • Undertake research on new developments in accounting, International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) and licensing practices to ensure application of lead practices in review of applications.
  • Implementation of quality management system and continuously identifying and managing risks within the division.
  • Preparing Management, Technical Committee and Board reports on Financial Analysis matters under consideration
  • Collecting and collating information to be used in developing of the Department’s Work plan and budget.

Minimum Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in finance, business or relevant field;
  • Previous relevant work experience required

Student Attachment – Administration

STUDENT ATTACHMENT -ADMINISTRATION – 1 POSITION

Attachment Period: 3 months (non-renewable)

Reporting to the Senior Officer Administration, the selected candidate will be responsible for;

  • Coordinating transport logistics at the Authority under the guidance of the Senior Officer Administration;
  • Assisting in coordinating repairs of office equipment, facilities and motor vehicles in line with the maintenance plan;
  • Coordinating mail delivery and other correspondences; and
  • Preparing monthly utilization reports on office utilities and other related services.

Minimum Requirement

  • A Continuing student pursuing a Degree or Diploma in Business Management, Business Administration, Public Administration, Human Resource Management or any relevant degree.

Student Attachment – Regulatory Framework

STUDENT ATTACHMENT – REGULATORY FRAMEWORK – 1 POSITION

Attachment Period: 3 months (non-renewable)

Reporting to the Senior Manager, Policy and Regulatory Framework the selected candidate will be responsible for;

  • Supporting the unit in undertaking legal research to help in legal review and drafting;
  • Liaising with relevant stakeholders in the development of legislative instruments;
  • Assisting in the preparation and coordination of stakeholder forums on regulatory framework; and
  • Coordinating stakeholder workshops.

Minimum Requirements

  • A continuing student pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in Law or Diploma in Law from a relevant institution.

Temporary Assistant – Debt, Equity & Other Schemes

TEMPORARY ASSISTANT – DEBT, EQUITY & OTHER SCHEMES _ 1 POSITION

Reporting to Senior Officer Debts, Equity and Other Schemes and will be responsible for reviewing applications for issuance of debt, equity securities, spot commodities and derivatives, investment funds and other products to ensure compliance with the Capital Markets Legal and Regulatory Framework and applicable standards.

Contract Period: Six (6) Months Fixed Term Contract

Key responsibilities forthe position:

  • Reviewing offer documents submitted in support of applications for approval of corporate restructuring transactions, such as Mergers & Acquisitions and private transfers;
  • Reviewing notices, announcements, advertisements and other required publications by issuers of securities, Investment funds and other products and make recommendations of their suitability for publication;
  • Engaging applicants and respond to queries and correspondence from various internal and external parties on the approval requirements;
  • Keeping and updating databases relating to application for approval of debt and equities securities and Collective Investment Schemes;and
  • Undertaking research on best practices relating to approval of issuers, CISs, ESOPs and other products to facilitate review of applications Participating in departmental meetings.

Minimum Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Law; and
  • Minimum of one year of relevant experience will be an added advantage.

STUDENT ATTACHMENT – ICT SERVICE DESK– 1 POSITION

Attachment Period: 3 months (non-renewable)

Reporting to the Senior Manager ICT, the selected candidate will be responsible for;

  • Assisting in manning the organization’s IT Help Desk and responding to user requests for technical assistance;
  • Supporting the installation and configuration of computers, network equipment, and peripherals such as printers, scanners, and other related hardware;
  • Providing support in user account management, including assisting with user creation and access setup across various systems; and
  • Assisting in troubleshooting computer system issues, including hardware, network, and peripheral equipment problems, and supporting repairs and corrective actions where required.

Minimum Qualifications

  • A continuing student pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology/Computer Science or a Diploma in Information Technology/Computer Science or any other relevant degree.
