Deputy Head Academic, Prep School

The Deputy Head Academic is responsible for promoting a vibrant and dynamic academic culture within the Prep School, working to ensure the highest standards of teaching, learning and academic attainment. The role is key to ensuring the Ethos, Aims and Values of the School are continuously maintained and demonstrated. The successful applicant will work closely with the Heads of Department and other senior staff to ensure effective planning and delivery of outstanding academic curriculum, assessment and reporting; and will be actively involved in overseeing teaching and learning practice and the efficient management of academic departments. Person Specification

  • Mark and assess the work of potential entrants to the school as required.
  • Maintain regular communication (where appropriate) with Prep School Curriculum Advisors, especially about the transition from Year 6 to Year 7.
  • Contribute to the overall curriculum planning of the school.
  • Plan and prepare courses and lessons in accordance with published schemes of work.
  • Teach the assigned students, including setting and marking of work and assessments in line with school policy.

Senco

Key Responsibilities

  • Management and Leadership of the schoolwide SEN provision Assessment and Identification of Educational Needs Together with the Heads of School and Board of Directors, determine the strategic development of the SEN provision in the School.
  • Ensure the School has a clear approach to
  • identifying and responding to students with special educational needs (Identifying needs at the earliest point and then making effective provision improves long term outcomes for the child or young person).
  • Day to day responsibility for the operation of the SEN provision school wide and oversight of the specific provision made to support individual students with SEN across the whole school.
  • Annual review of school policies related to students who learn differently (including SEN policy, EAL policy, G&T policy and parts of Curriculum policy).
  • Monitor the effectiveness of the School’s programmes of support and resources used through the annual review and evaluation of the breadth and impact of the support the School is offering for SEN, EAL and G&T

The successful candidate will:

Receptionist

General Responsibilities

  • Administration
  • Being a welcoming face to the School
  • Overseeing and monitoring all visitors – making sure the appropriate checks have been made in line with the School’s Safeguarding policies and that appropriate visitor protocols are followed
  • Answer telephone calls and deal with face-to-face enquiries efficiently and in a professional and nsupportive manner
  • Managing the school’s email inbox, ensuring the school meets its expected response times and emails are acted on by replying or referring/escalating where needed
  • Handle all confidential correspondence with discretion
  • Manage enquiries and requests efficiently, referring where necessary

Personal Qualities

Office Administrator

General Responsibilities

  • Safeguarding and Promoting the Wellbeing of students and the Durham Community:
  • Maintain up to date student records including emergency contacts and medical records
  • Coordinate the School’s Co-curricular Activities programme
  • Liaise with the co-curricular providers, e.g. swimming, ballet, chess, sports, etc to keep them informed of term dates, changes in schedules, etc
  • Coordinate half termly stationery orders and annual overseas resource orders
  • Maintain the medical stocks for the Health Centre
  • Arrange school visits and tours by prospective parents in conjunction with the Admissions Manager
  • Assist with the arranging of Open Days including all correspondence and catering arrangements
  • Complete forms required by parents for governmental and other purposes e.g. the Pupil Pass.
  • Liaise with the catering department regarding events and functions
  • Liaise with the Facilities department regarding bus schedules
  • Coordinate all risk assessments for class visits and other outings

Knowledge and Experience

Personal Qualities

  • Excellent written and verbal English communications skills
  • Experience in a multicultural, high performance, educational environment
  • Competent in a management information system like iSams

Bus Driver

General Responsibilities

  • Transport students from home to school and from school to home
  • Safely drive the school buses on scheduled routes while following traffic laws and regulations.
  • Ensure student and passenger safety at all times when on the bus.
  • Drop students only at authorized stops
  • Provide assistance to students as needed when getting on and off the bus.
  • Perform school related errands
  • Obey all traffic laws
  • No driver will report to work or drive a bus while under the influence of alcohol
  • Be at the bus 15 minutes before departure from school, or before a field trip
  • Be attentive to the traffic and weather conditions, stay on schedule and ensure the safety of passengers.
  • Uphold a positive image of the School by applying good and safe driving habits
  • Ensure that the bus is in good operating condition by testing the brakes, tires, lights and other ncomponents, complete the pre-trip inspection on a daily basis, and submit it to the Transport Manager
  • Ensure that the bus is washed twice a week, inside and outside, and sweep the bus and empty the bins daily.
  • Notify the Transport Manager in case of mechanical failure or lateness
  • Ensure all seatbelts are in working condition before leaving the campus
  • Ensure that all passengers have their seatbelts fastened before moving the bus, and maintain rules of conduct, and respond to emergencies.
  • Notify the Transport Manager if you are running late

Skills and Experience

  • KCSE certificate
  • A valid bus driver’s license
  • A clean driver’s record is essential
  • 5 years minimum experience driving in Nairobi
  • Experience of working in a school would be preferable
  • Know the appropriate safety and security measures associated with the role
  • Have a good knowledge of the Nairobi city roads and routes
