We are a not for profit organization that works with vulnerable children in the public school system to improve their lives and school performance. Founded in 2012, Food for Education provides subsidized school meals every day to over 15,000 kids with a goal of feeding 1,000,000 kids by 2025.

Mobile Engineer

Position Overview:

Food for Education (F4E) is seeking a passionate and skilled Mobile Engineer to join our dynamic technology team in Nairobi. Reporting to the Software Engineering Manager, you will play a critical role in designing, developing, and maintaining innovative cross-platform mobile applications using Flutter. These solutions are key to enabling F4E’s mission to improve access to affordable, high-quality school meals for public primary school children in Kenya.

The ideal candidate thrives in a fast-paced environment, has a strong grasp of mobile application development and deployment, and is eager to contribute to a purpose-driven organization that is scaling rapidly. Key Responsibilities:

  • Design, develop, and deploy cross-platform mobile applications using Flutter.

Desired Candidate Profile

  • 5 years hands on experience.

  • Hands-on experience with at least one cloud provider (GCP, Azure, oAWS)
  • Understanding of mobile development lifecycle, architecture patterns (e.g.,MVVM, Bloc), and best practices.
  • Familiarity with mobile CI/CD pipelines and tools for automated testing and deployment.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.

Preferred Skills

  • Basic experience with Java for Android development (nice to have).
  • Familiarity with RESTful APIs, GraphQL, or WebSockets for backend integration.

Associate IT Support

Position Overview

The Associate IT Support professional will assist in managing day-to-day IT operations, ensuring the smooth functioning of hardware, software, and network systems. This role involves providing first-level technical support to employees, troubleshooting IT issues, and maintaining IT assets.

The ideal candidate is a tech-savvy individual with a passion for problem-solving and delivering excellent customer service.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide first-level technical support to end-users via phone, email, or in person.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve hardware, software, and network issues in a timely manner.
  • Install, configure, and maintain computers, printers, and other peripherals.
  • Assist with managing user accounts, permissions, and access in various IT systems.

Legal Associate

About the Role

The Legal Associate provides comprehensive legal support and guidance to the organization across a wide range of legal and business matters. This role requires a strong understanding of corporate, regulatory, commercial, and employment law. The Legal Associate will work closely with the various departments to ensure the organization’s legal and regulatory compliance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Advise the organisation on a wide variety of legal and compliance matters.
  • Responsible for conducting extensive legal research, and providing opinions on various legal matters
  • Structuring, drafting, reviewing, interpreting, and negotiating a wide range of commercial contracts and other legal documents, as well as overseeing compliance of these contracts by all parties.
  • Manage the contract lifecycle, including contract tracking, renewals, and terminations

Qualifications and experience

  • Advocate of the High Court of Kenya
  • Minimum 5 years experience in corporate commercial law
  • In-house counsel experience will be an added advantage.

Decentralised Regional Coordinator

Key Responsibilities:

Operations Management

  • Review kitchen  operations through the looker and/or tablue and flag any trends and issues associated with quality and kitchen performance
  • Guide analysts in implementing and overseeing kitchen trends and problem-solving during and after operations
  • Oversee analyst’s adherence to their Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and conduct regular checks to ensure compliance
  • Track the number of meals cooked and consumed weekly, ensuring compliance with set KPIs for meal production.
  • In close collaboration with finance teams, identify key regional vendors and distributors that keep the cost of produce low and maintain a high quality in sourcing and distribution of perishable and non-perishable SKUs
  • Creating plans for expansion and scaling in different Regions
  • In collaboration with operations compliance conduct monthly assessments of the current operational gaps and priorities for F4E activities in the region.
  • Develop and execute operational improvement plan across the region and cascade critical strategies to all teams within the region
  • Manage the warehouse & inventory analysts, ensuring compliance with all warehouse processes and procedures.
  • Oversee vendor selection and interview process

Team Leadership and Capacity Building

  • Set out region-specific training schedules and materials for all teams within the region in accordance with the organisation’s objectives and team OKRs
  • Facilitate ongoing training and capacity-building initiatives for program analysts and Program support teams, focusing on reporting, troubleshooting and KAIZEN Lean methods
  • Manage individual performance for direct and sub-level reports through appropriate performance management systems and assessments.

Position Overview;

  • The Kitchen Trainee Program is a structured 6-month training initiative designed for graduates who aspire to grow into leadership roles in commercial kitchen operations. During this period, trainees will gain hands-on experience while assisting the Kitchen Manager and Junior Kitchen Manager in daily operations. The program focuses on building skills in Production and Planning, Logistics, Food Safety, and People Management. Successful trainees will transition into the Junior Kitchen Manager role.

Key Responsibilities

Production & Planning:

  • Assist the Kitchen Manager and Junior Kitchen Manager in preparing and executing daily production schedules for large-scale meal preparation.
  • Learn and ensure adherence to production procedures, recipes, portion sizes, and quality standards.
  • Support the monitoring of production processes to optimize efficiency and minimize waste.

Logistics & Supply Chain Management:

Warehouse and Inventory

  • Maintain accurate records of all stock, including grains, rice, and other consumables, using inventory management systems.
  • Track and monitor stock levels to ensure optimal supply at all times, preventing overstocking or shortages.
  • Update inventory data daily, ensuring transparency and accuracy for all stock movements in and out of the warehouse.
  • Warehousing Operations:
  • Oversee the receiving, storage, and dispatch of goods, ensuring proper documentation and adherence to warehousing protocols.
  • Ensure that the dukas and Kitchen stores are organized and food items are stored under optimal conditions, adhering to food safety regulations.
  • Coordinate with logistics teams to ensure timely delivery of stock to school kitchens, minimizing disruptions in meal preparations.
  • Conduct regular stock audits and physical counts to reconcile inventory levels with system records.
  • Investigate discrepancies in stock levels and recommend corrective measures to avoid future inconsistencies.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvements within warehousing and inventory management to enhance efficiency and reduce wastage.
  • Implement best practices for stock rotation, FIFO (First In, First Out), and minimize food spoilage or wastage.

Reporting

  • Prepare and share periodic inventory reports with management, highlighting key trends and areas for improvement.

Procurement

  • Plan, organize, direct, control and evaluate the purchasing of perishable and non-perishable goods at kitchen level
  • Support the  purchasing committee by helping to formalise processes, templates and policies
  • Support the Purchasing Intelligence project by gathering and analysing relevant market information on a certain spending category
  • Define and lead improvement projects and set up sourcing projects for indirect purchases

Desired Candidate Profile

  • Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics,, Business Administration, or a related field
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in inventory management, warehousing, or supply chain roles, preferably within food programs or the FMCG industry.
  • Proficient in inventory management software (e.g., AppSheet, Odoo, G-Sheets/Excel, or similar tools)
  • Strong understanding of warehousing and stock management principles.
  • Knowledge of food safety standards and handling requirements.

Program Associate

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee daily kitchen operations across a designated number of kitchens, ensuring adherence to set guidelines for meal preparation, hygiene, and food safety.
  • Provide support to kitchen teams to resolve operational challenges and ensure consistent execution of daily meal plans.
  • Monitor meal production and consumption data, ensuring kitchens meet daily targets and quality standards.
  • Supervise and provide guidance to a team of 5 Field Associates, ensuring they effectively support kitchen teams within their assigned areas.
  • Coordinate and distribute tasks to Field Associates to ensure all kitchens are visited and monitored regularly.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for Field Associates, providing operational guidance and addressing any issues they escalate.
