Job Description

Kenya Medical Research Institute (KEMRI) is a State Corporation established through the Science and Technology (Amendment) Act of 1979, which has since been amended to Science, Technology and Innovation Act 2013. The 1979 Act established KEMRI as a National body responsible for carrying out health research in Kenya.

Senior Grants Management Officer

Key Responsibilities:

  • Implement resource mobilization strategies aligned with KEMRI’s strategic priorities and research agenda.
  • Identify potential funding opportunities from government agencies, bilateral and multilateral donors, foundations, development partners, private sector organizations and other funding sources.
  • Conduct regular research and analysis of funding opportunities, donor priorities and emerging trends to inform institutional resource mobilization efforts.
  • Coordinate the development and submission of high quality concept notes, expressions of interest, proposals and other funding applications in collaboration with Principal Investigators and relevant departments.
  • Develop and maintain a comprehensive database of funding opportunities, donors, partners and submitted application, and track their status and outcomes.
  • Support Principal Investigators and research teams in developing competitive proposals, including resource mobilization strategies, budgets and donor specific requirements.
  • Establish and maintain strategic relationships with donors, development partners, private sector organizations and other potential funding partners.
  • Monitor and evaluate resource mobilization performance, including funding applications, success rates, income generated and donor engagement, and prepare periodic reports.
  • Support donor engagement meetings, partnership forums, networking events and other resource mobilization activities.
  • Provide guidance and capacity building to staff on resource mobilization, proposal development, donor requirements and partnership development.
  • Collaborate with relevant departments to ensure compliance with donor requirements and institutional policies throughout the funding cycle.
  • Perform any other duties as may be assigned by the supervisor.

Vacancy Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in any of the following; Biomedical Sciences, Medical Science, Social Sciences or any other relevant field from a recognized institution.
  • Master’s Degree in any of the following: Biomedical Sciences; Medical Sciences; Social sciences and any other relevant field from a recognizes institution.
  • At least eight (8) years relevant working experience in resource mobilization, fundraising, grants management, business development, partnerships or a related field
  • Demonstrated experience in developing successful funding proposals and/or mobilizing resources from local, international and industry funding partners
  • Proficiency in computer applications and relevant digital tools.
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation and interpersonal skills
  • Strong networking and partnership development skills, Good knowledge of donor funding processes and requirements
  • Strategic thinking and ability to identify and pursue funding opportunities.
  • Good organizational and project management skills.
  • Ability to work independently and effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • High level of integrity, professionalism and attention to detail.

 

Senior Dynamics 365 Business Central Developer

Key Responsibilities:

  • Developing documentation for Dynamics 365 Business Central applications and drawing up hardware specifications according to instructions.
  • Analyzing, designing, coding, testing, and implementing Dynamics 365 Business Central solutions and security systems.
  • Lead the development and implementation of a comprehensive grants management system aligned to industry best practices, leveraging advanced ERP technologies.
  • Conduct business process reengineering, integrate with financial systems, and customize ERP.
  • Monitor system performance, implement improvements, and translate business needs into effective technical solutions.
  • Maintaining an up-to-date equipment maintenance register.
  • Installing, configuring, and monitoring Dynamics 365 Business Central components and integrations with other systems.
  • Updating and maintaining the Institute’s Dynamics 365 Business Central environment.
  • Performing regular data and application backups for Dynamics 365 Business Central.
  • Mentoring staff and providing technical guidance on Dynamics 365 Business Central.

Vacancy Requirements:

  • At least four (4) years of relevant work experience.
  • A bachelor’s degree in any of the following disciplines: Information Technology, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or any other relevant and equivalent qualification from a recognized institution.
  • Proven experience with Dynamics 365 Business Central development, including AL language programming and extensions.
  • Professional certification such as Microsoft Certified: Dynamics 365 Business Central Functional Consultant Associate, MCSE, MCSA, MCSD, N+, A+, or any other equivalent certification from a recognized institution.
  • Completion of a supervisory course lasting not less than two (2) weeks from a recognized institution.

 

Grants Management Officer

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in identifying, researching, and tracking potential funding opportunities from donors, foundations, development partners, and other funding agencies.
  • Support the preparation, review, and submission of concept notes, expressions of interest, grant applications, and funding proposals in collaboration with researchers and relevant departments.
  • Assist in maintaining relationships and communication with potential and existing donors, development partners, research institutions, and other strategic partners.
  • Maintain up-to-date databases and records of funding opportunities, donors,submitted proposals, funding decisions, donor correspondence, and partnership engagements.
  • Assist in compiling institutional information, developing proposal budgets, and ensuring required supporting documents are complete and aligned with donor and institutional requirements.
  • Track proposal submissions, funding deadlines, donor feedback, and other key milestones, and follow up on pending applications and requests for additional information.
  • Assist in preparing periodic reports on resource mobilization activities, funding opportunities, proposals submitted, and funds secured, and support the coordination of donor meetings and resource mobilization activities.
  • Provide administrative and logistical support to the resource mobilization function, including scheduling meetings, preparing correspondence and reports and maintaining records
  • Any other duties as may be assigned by the supervisor.

Senior Assistant Office Administrator

Key Responsibilities:

  • Typing from drafts, manuscripts or recording from dictation machines; processing data;
  • Operating office equipment; attending to visitors/clients;
  • Handling telephone calls and appointments; ensuring security of office records, equipment and documents, including classified materials;
  • Preparing responses to simple routine correspondence;

Vacancy Requirements:

  • At least four(4) years relevant work experience;
  • Business Education Single and Group Certificates (BES and GC) Stages I, II and III from the Kenya National Examinations Council or equivalent in the following subjects:
  • Typewriting III ( Minimum 50 w.p.m)/Computerized document processing III;
  • Shorthand III (100 w.p.m).
  • Business English III/Communications II;
  • Office Management III;
  • Office Administration and Management III;
  • Secretarial Duties II;
  • Commerce II;
  • Diploma in Secretarial Studies from the Kenya National Examinations Council;
  • Public Relations and Customer Care Course from a recognized institution;
  • Registration with a professional body.
