Job Description

Murang’a County is one of the five counties in the Central region of the Republic of Kenya. It is bordered to the North by Nyeri, to the South by Kiambu, to the West by Nyandarua and to the East by Kirinyaga, Embu and Machakos counties.

Medical Officer (5) Posts

Requirements for appointment

  • Be a Kenyan citizenDegree from a University recognized in Kenya in Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor ofSurgery (M.B., & ChB.)
  • Have completed 12 months internship period;
  • Registered as a Medical Practitioner by the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentist Council;
  • Must have a Valid Practicing License
  • Demonstrable skills and experience in various clinical areas with at least three (3) years’ experience.
  • Be of acceptable moral and professional standing;
  • Certificate in computer application skills will be an added advantage.

Duties and responsibilities

The Medical Officer shall be responsible to the employer and the supervisor for the following:

  • Attending to patients in clerking, diagnoses, management and followup;
  • Performing medical and surgical procedures;
  • Responding to emergencies and disasters;
  • Providing health education;
  • Maintaining medical records, health information and data;
  • Participating in management of medicines, medical instruments and Equipment
  • Counselling patients and relatives on diagnosis and bereavement;
  • Teaching and coaching medical students, Medical Officer Interns, Nursing students and Interns, Clinical Officer students and interns;
  • Any other duty that may be assigned by the supervisor.

 

Occupational Therapist (Intern)

Minimum Requirements

  • Diploma in Occupational Therapy or its approved equivalent froma recognizedinstitution.
  • Must be registered with the Kenya Occupational Therapists Association.
  • Certificate in Computer Application Skills.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Planning, supervision for provision of occupational therapy services at an outpatient department or ward in a hospital or Community based Rehabilitation
  • Assessing patients’ needs for Rehabilitation;
  • Acquiring, verifying and maintaining information and data relating to patients,
  • Maintaining records of relevant departmental supplies including finished articles madeinOccupational Therapy section.
  • Assessing and formulating patient’s treatment plan
  • Maintaining records and data relating to patients;
  • Collecting data for operational research;
  • Sensitizing the community on occupational therapy issues; and preparing periodicreports

 

Physiotherapist (Intern)

Minimum Requirements

  • Diploma in physiotherapist from a recognized institution
  • Certificate in computer application skills from a recognized institution
  • Certificate of registration from the Kenya society of physiotherapist (KSP)
  • Current certificate of practice from the Kenya society of physiotherapist (KSP)

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Providing physiotherapist services to outpatients at an outpatient unit/ward/ health institution
  • Assessing patients’ needs including rehabilitation
  • Verifying and maintaining information and records relating to patients
  • Screening, assessing and providing therapeutic exercises, manual therapy, electrotherapy and hydrotherapy as per the patients/clients formulated treatment plan
  • Collecting data for operational research
  • Sensitizing the community on physiotherapist issues
  • Preparing periodic reports

 

Mortician (Intern)

Minimum Requirements

  • Be a Kenyan citizen
  • diploma in mortuary science
  • KCSE D (Plain) complete a period of apprenticeship, and pass a licensing exam
  • Be a member of a registered funeral professional association
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills
  • Strong English and Swahili language skills
  • Training in embalming and grief counseling. Proficiency in computer skills

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Collecting and receiving bodies within the hospital and outside through the prescribedprocedures.
  • Recording bodies received.
  • Washing the bodies, embalming, and refrigeration.
  • Scrubbing and assisting in post mortems.
  • Counselling the relatives.
  • Releasing the bodies to the relatives as per the laid procedures’

 

Registered Nurse (Intern)

Minimum Requirements

  • Diploma in Kenya Registered Community Health Nursing froma recognizedinstitution;
  • Registration Certificate issued by the Nursing Council of Kenya; and
  • Valid practicing license from the Nursing Council of Kenya;

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assessing, planning, implementing nursing interventions and evaluating patient’soutcomes;
  • Providing appropriate healthcare services including Integrated Management of
  • Childhood Illnesses (IMCI), Immunization, PMTCT, Ante-Natal Care andDelivery, Providing Health Education and Counselling to patients/clients and communityonidentified health needs
  • Referring patients and clients appropriately;
  • Facilitating patients’ admission and initiating discharge plans;
  • Maintaining records on patients’/clients’ health condition and care;
  • Ensuring a tidy and safe clinical environment; and
  • Collecting and compiling data.
