Kenya Talent Lead

ABOUT THE ROLE

You will be responsible for leading the Talent function and spearheading people strategies in the region. This includes recruitment, HR operations and compliance, employee relations, talent development, payroll, compensation and benefits.  You will also partner with the Talent team in South Africa to ensure alignment in practices and systems across regions.

Your key responsibilities include:

Recruitment & Selection

  • Manage a portfolio of open positions within the region and ensuring the Talent team hires quality staff on time to support the business objectives
  • Develop a thorough strategic plan for reaching all recruitment and hiring goals across all campuses.
  • Liaise with school leaders and hiring managers to design and execute a year-long hiring plan.
  • Set up the processes and systems that enable efficient hiring for each role.
  • Develop and implement a clear analytics strategy and approach towards recruitment using data at all time for decision-making
  • Refine preexisting and develop new selection tools to ensure alignment between how we hire and what’s needed for each role.
  • Support Hiring Managers in making final hiring decisions and play a lead role in all leadership hiring roles
  • Managing reputational risk on Glassdoor and LinkedIn
  • Develop content on Nova Pioneer’s digital platforms to build on the employer brand while building employee advocacy
  • Design content, facilitate and coordinate onboarding of new teammates to Nova Pioneer.

  • Maintain and coordinate the referral scheme program and the pay out periods with Finance.
  • Ensure that all job descriptions, interview trackers, interview tools such as performance tasks are updated, maintained and stored in the relevant team drives

HR Operations and Compliance

  • Comply with local legal requirements by studying existing and new legislation; anticipating legislation; enforcing adherence to requirements; advising management on needed actions s
  • Update job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks and participating in professional organizations.
  • Protect organisation’s value by keeping information confidential.
  • Lead the creation, review and updates of company-wide policies as well as spearhead HR related standards of procedures
  • Ensure all employee data is up to date in both the HR Information System as well as hard copy files in the event of audit
  • Ensure all revised policies are communicated to all employees and accessible via NovaHub
  • Facilitate trainings on sensitization of sensitive HR policies to ensure managers and employees have clarity in the working relationship
  • Carry out audits from time to time to ensure employee files are up to date with statutory and academic requirements
  • Safeguard compliance when it comes to hiring employees with supportive documentation to ensure statutory compliance with labour laws
  • Ensure Nova Pioneer’s ongoing compliance with the National Employment Authorit (NEA), Work Injury and Benefits Act (WIBA) Teachers Service Commission (TSC), National Industrial Training Authority (NITA), and any other Kenyan bodies that require compliance.
  • Establish relationships with the institutions listed above and any other entities that require compliance

Employee Relations

  • Chair all disciplinary hearings and proceedings by ensuring compliance and fairness as per the labour laws
  • Provide talent advisory to managers and the senior leadership team on disciplinary cases and separation on a need by need basis
  • Represent Nova Pioneer during litigation cases and working closely with the legal counsel when handling lawsuits
  • During redundancy procedures liaise closely with the labour officers as well as engage and collaborate during labour inspection audits
  • Work closely with the senior associate in coordinating work injury compensation benefits with employees

Performance & Talent Development

  • Partner with the Academic Leadership Team and other leaders to design and train managers on people processes such as people management, hiring for their teams and managing performance
  • Act as a facilitator to the Central team when running monthly professional development trainings on soft skills and leadership
  • Onboard and train all new managers on hiring and managing teams using the Managing the Nova Pioneer framework
  • Provide direct support to managers to support growth and performance plans in partnership with the Talent Associate Manager in South Africa

Payroll, Compensation and Benefits

  • Support the planning, benchmarking, and communication of compensation and benefits by liaising with HR consultants in compensation data and surveys
  • Lead the payroll administration in region and running payroll audits with Finance to ensure alignment with budgetary staffing spend and projections
  • Together with the Global Director of Talent and People Systems, review employee benefits revising them to ensure employee happiness and engagement in a sustainable manner
  • Lead the bi-annual medical and wellness campus across campuses to facilitate employee wellbeing and health
  • Work with partners to ensure medical as well as financial wellness for employees to ensure engagement and retention

Team Leadership & Capability Building

  • Hire, train and provide coaching and performance management to the Talent team in Kenya
  • Support the development of systems and processes that will enhance and strengthen our team and our effectiveness in the organisation
  • Work closely with the Global Director of Talent and People Systems to track budgeting of HR activities and costs in the region
  • Plan for and facilitate team building for the Talent team in region
  • Working closely with the Senior Director of Schools to support administratively in the planning and coordination of leadership offsites.

ABOUT YOU

  • A Bachelor’s Degree or Equivalent in a related field, required
  • A Masters degree in Business, Management or HR is highly desired

Senior Back End Engineer

As the founding Back-End Engineer, you’ll build the core services and data infrastructure powering our AI Success Coach, learner profiles, and post-school pathways. You’ll define patterns, ship reliable APIs, and set technical foundations that can scale across Africa.

Key Output: Robust services and data infrastructure that enable fast releases, protect user data, and measurably improve activation, completion, and progression outcomes.

Build Core Services and APIs

  • Design and implement REST or GraphQL APIs in TypeScript (NestJS or Express).
  • Model relational data in PostgreSQL; manage migrations safely and document schema changes.

Product UX Designer

ABOUT THE ROLE

The Product Designer will lead human‑centred design for PSSP’s digital experiences. You will translate insights from students, graduates, parents, deans, and employers into elegant, accessible workflows and UI that ship quickly and measurably improve outcomes. You will partner with the PSSP Lead, product managers, engineers, and programme teams to scope MVPs, run experiments, and evolve the product based on data and feedback.

Key Output: Usable and delightful product experiences that improve learner activation, completion, and progression to next‑step outcomes. Shipped designs and specs that enable high‑quality engineering delivery and measurable impact.

Key responsibilities of the role include:

Discovery and Research

  • Co-plan and run lightweight user research, co‑design sessions, and usability tests with learners and potential users across Kenya and South Africa.
  • Map end‑to‑end journeys for PSP, TGP, and IP, including offline touchpoints like camps, job shadows, and Graduate Summits.
  • Translate findings into clear problem statements, opportunity areas, and hypotheses.

Product and User Experience Design

  • Define information architecture, user flows, wireframes, and interactive prototypes for mobile‑first experiences with offline‑first considerations.

Post School Prep (PSP) Content and Development Senior Associate

ABOUT THE ROLE

The PSP Content and Development Senior Associate will design, script, and produce engaging digital learning content that helps learners reflect, plan, and act on their goals. Working closely with the Post-School Success team, you’ll transform Nova’s current in-person and slide-based materials into interactive digital modules and micro-learning experiences.

You’ll be part of the core founding team creating the first version of the PSSP, combining storytelling, learning design, and creative media formats that speak to how young people learn today. This is a project-based role (initial 12-month contract, with the possibility of renewal based on performance, funding, and programme needs).

Key Output: Weekly PSP modules and session kits shipped on schedule; content correctly tagged and versioned; <1% publishing errors; basic engagement snapshots shared each sprint; learner and facilitator feedback incorporated into the next release.

Key responsibilities of the role include:

Content Strategy & Engagement

  • Translate existing PSS curriculum and frameworks into learner-centered digital modules.
  • Create scripts, storyboards, and outlines for interactive lessons, short videos, and reflection activities.

ABOUT YOU

  • In liaison with the School Leader, overseeing the implementation of a Student Life strategy and ensuring effective and efficient use of resources assigned to student life (financial, human, etc.)
  • Create Residential Life goals for the academic year and tracking toward progress.
  • Sit on the school management team and attending all meetings where a residential life voice is required.
  • Teach a maximum of twelve  lessons per week in their subject of specialization.
  • Manage the Dorm Mother (s) and the School nurse.
  • Ensure the development, growth and accountability of direct reports.
  • Oversee school move in and move out in compliance with the school calendar.
  • Create a plan for student health and safety emergency preparedness.
  • Ensure that the School’s behaviour policy is implemented consistently and effectively. Working in collaboration with the Behavior Committee to ensure fair proceedings.
  • In liaison with the School Leader, designing and administer policies in the residence halls.
  • Perform administrative duties including: creating and retaining student housing contracts, emergency contact information, room and other keys, etc.
  • Develop and implement appropriate communication strategies in order to keep all members of the Residential Life Community and students families informed regarding matters of interest, information and concern.
  • Liaise with security staff to ensure students’ personal safety and security.
  • Support with sports, clubs and societies.
  • Support with Boarding Teacher on duty schedules and ensuring duties are done effectively.
  • Any other duties as assigned by your Manager.

Skills and Qualifications required

  • You have a Bachelor’s Degree in Education and you are TSC certified
  • Masters degree in education/ social sciences is not compulsory, it would be an added advantage.
  • You love working with teenagers and have previously engaged with teen and youth programmes that help them develop holistically
  • You have probably served as a Boarding mistress
  • Experience with youth development in various settings such as sports coaching, mentoring/counseling, etc.
  • Significant experience in senior management as you will be leading a boarding team
  • Proven record of success in leading student life programs
  • An awareness, understanding and experience of issues relating to safeguarding the health, welfare and safety of children
  • You are excited about our organizational culture—and in particular, you are fired up to challenge yourself by embracing mutual vulnerability and a firehose of feedback
  • You have a desire to further develop your learning design skills and apply them to transform the lives of African youth
