Job Description

Tharaka Nithi County is one of the forty seven (47) counties in Kenya. It borders the Counties of Embu to the South and South West, Meru to the North and North East, Kirinyiga and Nyeri to the West and Kitui to the East and South East.

Engineer II – Irrigation,

Requirements for appointment

  • Be a Kenyan citizen;
  • Bachelor’s Degree in any of the following disciplines: – Agricultural Engineering, Agricultural and Bio-systems Engineering, Soil and Water Engineering, Soil, Water and Environmental Engineering, Environmental and Bio-systems Engineering or its equivalent qualification from a recognized institution with a focus on water resources and irrigation;
  • Registration by the Engineers Board of Kenya (EBK);
  • Certificate in computer application skills, specifically, knowledge in AutoCAD 2. CIVIL3D, QGIS/ArcMap 4. Spreadsheet -MS Office,  Use of RTK in survey or any other geomapping software.
  • Familiarity with soil science, hydrology, and water management principles;
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and teamwork skills; and Ability to work independently and as part of a team and manage multiple projects simultaneously.

Duties and responsibilities

  • The Engineer [2] – Irrigation shall be responsible to the employer and the supervisor for the following;
  • Undertaking preliminary investigations and feasibility studies for irrigation scheme development;
  • Collecting and compiling data for irrigation scheme planning;
  • Prepare technical drawings, specifications, and cost estimates for irrigation projects;
  • Oversee the installation, operation, and maintenance of irrigation systems, ensuring compliance with design specifications and industry standards;
  • Mobilizing farmers for participatory irrigation development;
  • Identifying irrigation schemes for development;
  • Setting up of demonstration plots;
  • Implementing irrigation action plans;
  • Ensure compliance with relevant regulations and standards.
  • Stay up-to-date with the latest advancements in irrigation technology; and
  • Any other duty assigned.

 

Assistant Public Health Officer III – 21 Posts

Requirements for appointment

  • Be a Kenyan Citizen;
  • Diploma in either Environmental Health Sciences or Public Health from a recognized institution;
  • Registration and valid practicing license from the Public Health and Technicians Council (PHOTEC);
  • Have acquired the necessary Computer skills

Duties and responsibilities

  • The Assistant Public Health Officer shall be responsible to the employer and the supervisor for the following;
  • Mobilizing, sensitizing, and advising communities on matters related to environmental/ public health;
  • Referring health cases to relevant health facilities;
  • Identifying environmental health issues at the community level; Mobilize communities for preventive intervention such as Immunization
  • Organizing community health days to advise communities on common public health issues;
  • Collecting and maintaining up-to-date records of services rendered;
  • Assessing the health needs of the community;
  • Implementing vector, vermin, and rodent control measures;
  • Implementing integrated mosquito control strategies; and
  • Any other duty that may be assigned by the supervisor.

 

Youth Polytechnic Instructor III – Hairdressing – 13 Posts

Requirements for Appointment

  • Be a citizen of Kenya;
  • Diploma or Craft Module II in any of the following disciplines:
  • Diploma in Technical Education or Instructor Training Certificate from KTTC; and
  • Experience lasting not less than two (2) years

Duties and Responsibilities

The Youth Polytechnic Instructor shall be responsible to the employer and the supervisor for the following;

  • Theoretical and practical instruction in the area of specialization;
  • Preparing and maintain schemes of work, lesson notes;
  • Trainee records, teaching and learning materials;
