Job Description

Communications Assistant, G5

Responsibilities

  • Provides specialized assistance to officers in the production and delivery of information communications products and services.
  •  Provides support in enhancing visibility and outreach by contributing to the development and dissemination of communication materials, including digital, print and multimedia outputs.
  • Supports marketing and promotional activities by: identifying and preparing targeted content for dissemination through appropriate channels; researching audience data and trends to inform content development; drafting key messages and promotional texts for campaigns and outreach initiatives; updating and maintaining mailing lists and campaign trackers; coordinating the design, review and dissemination of promotional materials including brochures, digital banners, event kits and branded templates; and ensuring consistency with UN branding and communication standards across all materials.
  • Manages, updates and further develops internal databases; updates web site, to include drafting and editing content; development and maintenance of Internet applications; generates a variety of standard and non-standard statistical and other reports from various databases.
  • Researches, compiles and presents basic information for use in the preparation and production of communications products/services.
  • Serves as photographic assistant by producing digital imaging, producing photo prints, and serving as back-up photographer; write captions for UN photos.
  • Coordinates media coverage of important events; liaises with news and publications agencies, public relations firms, UN photographers, etc. to provide advance notice of, and information on, upcoming meetings, briefings and special events and to ascertain coverage requirements; coordinates technical arrangements and organizes and allocates space for visiting news, photo, TV and film personnel; evaluates and processes applications for UN security clearances/accreditations.
  • Participates in the planning and coordination of major exhibits; liaises with relevant departments/agencies; drafts and edits reports, production schedules, press releases and related texts, and correspondence related to the planning and production of exhibits.
  • Using relevant computer software, creates designs in appropriate format for promotional and other material, e.g. brochures, presentational materials, announcements, video and audio cassette covers and catalogues, etc.; ensures that photos, graphics, etc. are appropriate and conform to UN standards for print materials.
  • Ensures availability and appropriate packaging of products for distribution at special events, exhibits, conferences, media functions, etc.
  • Provides general office support; responds to complex information requests and inquiries; processes, drafts and finalizes correspondence and other communications; sets up and maintains files/records, organizes meetings, monitors deadlines, etc.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Education

  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.

Work Experience

  • A minimum of five (5) years of experience in communications, digital content management, web publishing, or a related field is required.
  • Experience using CMS platforms (e.g., WordPress, Drupal), HTML and CSS is desirable. Experience with Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign) is desirable.
  • One (1) year or more of experience in data analytics or related area is desirable.

 

Programme Management Consultant

Responsibilities include:

  • Provide strategic advice on partnership engagement under the Local 2030 Coalition, including the draft of partnership proposals and agreements.
  • Provide technical support in expanding existing partners and mobilizing resources towards the activities of the team local and regional government and their associations, as well as UN entities and International Organizations.
  • Provide technical support to the implementation of SDG localization programmes coordinated by the Team.
  • Provide technical advice to UN-Habitat’s Regional and Country Offices on the implementation of SDG localization-related projects and tools.
  • Prepare implementing partners’ coordination meetings, including the preparation of background material (briefings, agendas etc.) as well as reporting (minutes, notetaking etc.)
  • Support the identification of opportunities for project development in coordination with relevant UN-Habitat’s HQ teams, Regional and Country Offices.
  • Provide strategic advice on substance and content for the preparation of background materials and social media outreach. • Continuous support and coordination with the team’s communication focal point for the dissemination of project activities and beneficiaries for outreach activities. Reporting Line This post is located in the Global Solutions Division and specifically within its SDG localization and Local Governments Team. The incumbent will be supervised by the Human Settlements Officer coordinating the work of the Team and under direct supervision of the Directors of the Global Solutions Division. The expert will work in proximity to the other members of the team as well as in coordination with other units, sections and offices across the Agency.

Qualifications/special skills

  • University Degree in Political Science, Social Sciences, Urban Studies, Architecture, Data and Statistics, Development Studies or other relevant area is required.
  • A  minimum of two (2) years of relevant working experience on issues related to sustainable development, local governance, urban planning and project management is required.
  • Working experience on the 2030 Agenda and the local implementation of the SDGs will be highly valued

 

Intern – Urban Safety

Responsibilities

Under the direct supervision of the UN-Habitat’s Safer Cities Coordinator, the intern will:

  • Support the mapping, analysis and compilation of tools, resources and promising practices on urban safety for diverse population groups in cities and human settlements.
  • Support the mainstreaming and reporting on urban safety across UN-Habitat’s programming and policies, including in monitoring the implementation of the United Nations Systemwide Guidelines on Safer Cities and Human Settlements.
  • Support in the dissemination of capacity building resources and urban safety tools such as the Curriculum on Urban Safety and Human Security in Cities and the Urban Safety Monitor, which may require support in organising meetings and webinars, carrying out background research, drafting surveys and communication materials, and other similar tasks as required.
  • Support outreach and communication to urban safety stakeholders, including the Global Network on Safer Cities and internal groups promoting urban safety.
  • Support the development of a learning report and a strategy for the next phase of the Safer Cities initiative.
  • Support relevant internal and external meetings / events with a focus on urban safety. This may include providing logistical support, meeting coordination, drafting meeting minutes, preparing support materials, drafting talking points, liaising with internal / external stakeholders, preparing summary reports, etc.
  • Support with resource mobilisation efforts to strengthen HRSI Unit’s work on urban safety.
  • Support the Safer Cities Coordinator, as otherwise required.
  • This internship may be carried out remotely or in-person, based on the availability and needs of the selected intern. If it is a remote internship, time zone differences will be taken into consideration, but the intern must be available for a minimum of agreed meetings during EAT work hours to ensure a regular communication flow.

Intern – Project Administrative Support, PINUA

Responsibilities

  • Support in the general administrative operations and coordinate as appropriate with other UN-Habitat staff and departments.
  • Scheduling project meetings schedule, in relation to the program and handling related correspondence.
  • Support project financial management and reporting by reviewing and consolidating field reports in areas of direct and indirect implementation.
  • Support in updating and monitoring of various trackers e.g., procurement, travel, recruitment and cash advance.
  • Support with travel logistics arrangements e.g., flight bookings, car hire and accommodation booking.
  • Support in the organization of meetings, training and conferences including liaison with participants, conducting site visits, and assisting with writing minutes.
  • Provide assistance in the clearance and approval of legal documents such as Agreements of Cooperation applicable in the implementation of the project activities.
  • Responsible for the project documentation process, to facilitate the development of the PINUA Knowledge Management Hub.
  • Support in the quality assurance of submitted reporting documents by Implementing Partners.
  • With the support of the ICTS office, assist in leveraging project automation, managing share drive information, electronic reporting templates, setting-up on new user accounts, laptop assignment and troubleshooting of system and network problems.
  • Maintain orderly records and files on on-going projects and project/programme

Intern – Resource Mobilisation and Social Inclusion

Responsibilities

  • Under the direct supervision of the Project Management Officer in the Human Rights and Social Inclusion (HRSI) Unit, the intern will:
  • Support in the development of a resource mobilisation and stakeholder engagement plan for the HRSI Unit, including liaising with the Donor Relations and Strategic Resource Partnerships Unit for review and approval.
  • Support research on potential development partners, funding opportunities, and grant-making institutions relevant to human rights and social inclusion.
  • Support in drafting professional outputs such as concept notes, proposals, fundraising strategies, donor engagement plans and donor reports.
  • Support in the development and management of a donor database and assist in tracking funding proposals.
  • Contribute to partnership-building efforts and stakeholder engagement with foundations, private sector actors, and international development agencies.
  • Support in the exploration and development of innovative funding mechanisms and strategic approaches to in-house financing.
  • Support the HRSI team members as otherwise required.
