Systems Librarian Job at Management University Of Africa, Kenya

We are looking for a dynamic, self-driven and result oriented professional to fill the following positions:-

Systems librarian Job Purpose

  • The purpose of this job is to continuously support the University Library in the delivery of technology responsive and customer focused driven information services.

Principal Accountabilities/ Key Result Areas

  • Managing the Library OPAC system
  • Library’s website administration
  • E-Content Collections management
  • Online Services development customized specifically for the Management University of Africa Library over the intranet.
  • Library Computers Systems Administration / Support
  • Accessioning, cataloguing and classification of new library materials
  • Dealing with electronic reader enquiries made in person, by telephone, e‐mail or post (to include issuing and return of loans to clients, biographical and bibliographical enquiries, and providing access to library, repository, archive and rare book collections)
  • Keeping records of library systems use, including statistics on cataloguing, loans and reference use and reporting these.
    Publicity and promotion of e-content

Qualifications for System Librarian Job

  • Bachelors Degree or postgraduate qualification in librarianship, information studies or information management with a minimum of 4 years’ experience in a similar field.

Essential Competence

  • An up-to-date understanding of new and emerging technologies and the scope for exploiting them.
  • Technical competence in web authoring, (html, css ); using a range of multimedia tools, content management systems; systems administration tools (virtualmin/webmin/cpanel, phpmyadmin,) Microsoft Office packages; operating systems (Ubuntu linux & windows)
  • Cataloging: AACR2r, Dublin Core, LCSH, Linked Data, MARC21, RDA, RDF
  • Knowledge on IT applications in relation to library management: (CMS, Blog, IM, LMS, ILMS, and Repositories.)
  • Virtual Learning Environment and e-learning development tools (exeLearning, moodle …)
  • Electronic records management & Information repackaging/management
  • Copyright, intellectual property rights and licensing issues
  • Good communication, Presentation and Customer service skills
  • Customer care and quality assurance in information services provision

Performance Standards

  • Establishment and effective Administration of the various library oriented Online Information Service platforms:
  • Identification & high integration of a variety of e-solutions and e-resources into the daily experience of clients.
  • Increased visibility and utility of the library services.
  • Continued development of Online Services and system at the library
  • E-content collection development & management
  • Maintenance of library hardware and software,
  • Uptake of Web based training and creation of interactive courses
  • Promotion of the open access regime as well as safeguarding of Intellectual property Rights (IPRs)
