Job Description

BURN designs, manufactures, and distributes aspirational fuel-efficient cooking products that save lives and forests in the developing world. BURN has revolutionized the global cookstove sector by proving the business case for selling a high quality, locally manufactured and unsubsidized cookstoves.

About the role:

Burn is looking for a Tax and Compliance Officer who will be responsible for tax, statutory & regulatory compliance for the group.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Prepare the necessary paperwork for monthly and annual tax, levies & statutory return filings and payments.
  • Prepare and maintain monthly reconciliations for VAT, WH VAT & WHT.
  • Assist in lodging and follow up on VAT refunds with the relevant authorities.
  • Ensure group internal processes are compliant with the existing tax, statutory & regulatory laws by monitoring the development of laws across the jurisdictions of the Group’s operations.
  • Maintain a monthly returns calendar.
  • Maintaining the group’s licenses tracker and liaising with respective country representatives to renew and update the same.
  • Serving as a liaison between regulators, revenue authorities and internal/ external auditors concerning deliverables from the tax and compliance department.
  • Assist with tax planning to ensure a Global tax efficient structure for the group.
  • Assist in compiling and presenting supporting documentation during revenue authority and other regulatory bodies audits.
  • Review, monitor and update the company on changes in tax & statutory legislations, rulings regulations and litigations in all jurisdictions in which the group operates.
  • Review transactions and invoices and advise the company on tax and other regulatory implications.
  • Any other tasks as may be assigned by the company.

Skills and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, taxation, or a related field (master’s degree or CPA certification may be preferred).
  • Proven related work experience in the tax and compliance field.
  • In-depth knowledge of laws and regulations.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in tax software and financial software applications.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Ethical and principled approach to tax and compliance matters.
