Teacher

Reporting to the Specialist, Program Design and Pedagogy, the Teacher will play a pivotal role in the classroom implementation of the TaRL methodology and Early Grade programs within the Kenyan context. The primary objective is to drive measurable improvements in foundational literacy and numeracy outcomes while ensuring the long-term sustainability of the programs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Instructional delivery: Demonstrate mastery of the TaRL activities, facilitate high-energy, one-hour sessions each in Numeracy, Literacy and Early Grade programs in adherence to TaRL principles.
  • Assessment and Data management: Conduct assessment of learners in the target grades in both reading and math using the TaRL assessment tools, accurately record, maintain and analyze quality data to track student progress.
  • Planning and preparation: Develop daily session plans with clearly defined learning objectives and learner-centered activities.
  • Adaptive teaching: Utilize learner-centered techniques to target and advance student learning based on real-time classroom data.
  • Collaboration and reflection: Participate in daily and weekly reflection with mentors and peers and use data to enhance quality of teaching and attention to learners.
  • Stakeholder engagement: Provide regular progress updates to the TaRL team, headteachers and staff in the assigned school on the progress of TaRL activities.
  • Reporting and documentation: Maintain an updated file of all program records and document lessons learned to share with mentors and school administration.
  • Conduct follow ups and home visits for absentee learners to document and address barriers to attendance.
  • Any other duty that may be assigned to you by your supervisor.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education, social sciences or related field.
  • Registered with the Teachers Service Commission.
  • Prior experience implementing the TaRL methodology is highly desirable.
  • Working knowledge of the Kenyan National curriculum.
  • Good command of written and spoken English and Kiswahili.
