Job Description

The Central Bank of Kenya is a public institution established under Article 231 of the Constitution of Kenya, 2010. The Bank is responsible for formulating monetary policy to achieve and maintain price stability and issuing currency. Pursuant to the CBK Act, the Central Bank promotes financial stability through regulation, supervision and licensing of financial institutions under its mandate. The Bank also provides oversight of payment, clearing and settlement systems. All these efforts are geared towards fostering liquidity, solvency and proper functioning of the financial system. The Bank also formulates and implements foreign exchange policy and manages foreign exchange reserves. CBK is the banker for, adviser to, and fiscal agent of the Government. In discharging its mandate, the Central Bank contributes to the country’s economic development and growth, and promotes the interest of the public. The Bank strives to carry out its statutory mandate effectively and efficiently guided by the principles of integrity and transparency.

Job Purpose

The role holder working under the direction and guidance of an experienced Team Leader, will be responsible for handling repairs and maintenance services with respect to carpentry, joinery and builders works within the assigned workstation.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Responsible for carrying out works on responsive and planned maintenance tasks as requested to the highest specifications and standards in the following areas:
  • Office floor space Management
  • Builders works
  • Finishes maintenance – Floor, wall, ceiling, pavement, etc
  • Fittings and fixtures maintenance – doors, windows, glazing, partitions, furniture, etc
  • Carry first and second fix joinery and associated building works to specification as instructed either individually or as part of a team.
  • To work in accordance with the information, instruction and training given, safely and efficiently and to inform the Team Leader of any potential safety hazards that may not have been adequately mitigated.
  • Complete timesheets and other relevant documentation to the satisfaction of your line manager and within the expected timelines.
  • Use authorized plant & equipment provided with due care and attention and in line with expected standards and procedures.
  • Work as part of a team and use materials safely as directed and in line expected standards.
  • Load and unload materials and equipment as directed and in line with expected standards and procedures.
  • Collaborate within the function and be available to support in any area as may be guided by the line manager to support in repairs and maintenance service.
  • Build and maintain good working relationships with colleagues, guests, and managers to ensure the effectiveness of the repairs and maintenance service.
  • Be aware of risks in own area of work, work in safe manner taking account other people’s health and wellbeing.
  • Take part in the function’s initiatives and training in order to continuously upskill.
  • Follow Health and Safety policy and procedures including the wearing of personal protective equipment when necessary.
  • Responsive and active team player in line with Bank values.
  • Adherence to work procedures, policies and regulations.
  • Share contribution for areas of development/improvement aimed at improving the standards of the workplace.
  • Any other duties and responsibilities as may be assigned by the Supervisor.

Requirements

Qualifications

  • Higher National Diploma or equivalent in Architecture or building services with emphasis in builders works, carpentry and joinery.
  • Artisan National Trade Test Certificate Grade III/apprentice Certificate awarded by the National Industrial Training Authority or its equivalent/or higher and relevant qualification from a recognized institution.

Work Experience

  • Five (5) years of relevant experience in busy related field within a large institution.
  • Working knowledge of plumbing, electrical/electronics, etc will be an added advantage.

Competencies

Technical Competencies

  • Highly experienced and hands-on in all practical artisan and related building areas including carpentry, concrete works, finishes, fittings, painting, ceiling, aluminum, roofing, civil works, basic electrical, mechanical, and plumbing.
  • Knowledge of repairs, maintenance, and installation techniques.
  • Knowledge of Kenyan plumbing code.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, diagrams, schematics, and written reference material by an Architect.
  • Ability to perform basic arithmetical calculations, diagnose and resolve.
  • Problem solving, use hand and power tools.
  • Ability to write technical specifications, take off quantities, prepare BQ’s, estimate costs and reports and evaluate contractor tenders.
  • Computer skills – including use of MS Office suite, ArchiCAD/AutoCAD.
