Job Description

The Aga Khan Academies are an agency of the Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN). The AKDN is a group of development agencies with mandates that include the environment, health, education, architecture, culture, microfinance, rural development, disaster reduction, the promotion of private-sector enterprise and the revitalisation of historic cities. University Counsellor

The position

The University Counsellor will be responsible for supervising and providing guidance to the students of graduating class and their families through the transition to university as well as implement a comprehensive university counselling program in the upper school and navigate financial aid & scholarship opportunities.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITY: 

  • Guide students and their parents/guardians through the university admissions process.
  • Educate families about university admissions and financial aid scholarships opportunities.
  • Monitor individual student progress throughout the university application process.
  • Prepare transcripts and other supplementary material to be sent to universities.
  • Coordinate with students for SAT/ACT testing and preparation.
  • Pay particular attention to students’ populations that require significant financial aid and assist those students with scholarship application and follow up with universities and scholarship organizations.
  • Network with university admissions representatives Invite university admissions officers to visit the school and meet with students.
  • The university counsellor supervises teaching fellow and guides the work of the university counselling office through.
  • Reviewing and providing feedback on university lists, students recommendations etc.
  • Maintaining up to date information on universities including guidebooks and prospectuses.
  • Oversight and management of department budget.
  • Attends appropriate meetings of the academic leadership team.
  • Advises faculty in their writing of university recommendations.
  • Provides periodic reports summarizing university applications and decisions to date.

The requirements

QUALIFICATIONS 

  • At least a Bachelor’s degree.
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience working in secondary schools.
  • Is familiar with ManageBac and generating transcripts.
  • Is knowledgeable about UCAS system the UK application portal.
  • Strong written and oral English communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
