Job Description

The Presbyterian University of East Africa (PUEA) is a private university founded in 2007 by the Presbyterian Church of East Africa (PCEA). The University is registered with the Commission for University Education (CUE).

Vice Chancellor

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic leadership aligned with the University’s vision, mission, and core values.
  • Strengthen academic quality, teaching, research, innovation, and student outcomes.
  • Enhance industry-driven programmes, employability initiatives, and curriculum development.
  • Ensure financial sustainability through resource mobilization, risk management, and prudent utilization of University assets.
  • Lead human resource development, talent management, and performance management.
  • Promote a student-centered culture that enhances welfare, safety, and learning experience.
  • Drive organizational transformation, digital capability, and service delivery.
  • Build and maintain strategic partnerships with industry, government, donors, and international institutions.
  • Uphold good governance, ethical leadership, and institutional accountability.
  • Serve as Secretary to the University Council and its Committees, Chair the Management Board, Senate, and other University Committees as provided in the Statutes.

Qualifications and Experience

Applicants must possess:

  • An earned PhD from a recognized University. (Professorship will be an added advantage.)
  • At least 10 years of senior academic and administrative experience, with a proven track record in educational leadership, including experience at the level of Deputy Vice-Chancellor or equivalent. (Experience as a Dean or Principal of a college will be an added advantage.)
  • Demonstrated strategic leadership with successful outcomes.
  • Proven leadership in research, innovation, and academic governance.
  • Distinguished academic and research record, including extensive publications in internationally recognized peer-reviewed journals and presentations at international conferences.
  • Proven experience in resource mobilization, financial management, and institutional development.
  • Demonstrated ability to network, fundraise, mobilize, and attract resources, including research grants.
  • A track record of leading transformation and delivering measurable results.
  • Strong ethical standards, integrity, and commitment to good governance in accordance with Chapter Six of the Constitution of Kenya, 2010.
