Workshop Manager

Our client is a growing African design studio and showroom that celebrates heritage through high-quality furniture, art, and interiors. They collaborate with skilled artisans to create timeless pieces with cultural and social impact. They are seeking to hire a highly organised and strategic Workshop Manager to lead their in-house furniture production workshop. This senior role requires balancing operational excellence, quality control and long-term growth, while embracing agility and hands-on leadership during our growth stage.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate daily workshop workflow and schedules with the Lead Carpenter.
  • Monitor production progress, troubleshoot challenges, and ensure deadlines are met.
  • Oversee quality control for all in-house and consignment workshop projects.
  • Manage order flow, materials, and logistics to ensure smooth operations.
  • Identify inefficiencies and develop solutions for improved productivity.
  • Support scaling initiatives, including equipment, systems, and workforce growth.
  • Collaborate across teams to streamline production processes and ensure timely material supply.

Required Specifications: 

  • Proven experience in workshop or production management, ideally in furniture, carpentry, or related creative industries.
  • Knowledge of production planning, workflow optimization, and quality assurance systems.
  • Ability to manage budgets, materials, and timelines effectively.
  • Experienced in supervising and motivating artisans, carpenters, or technical teams.
  • Familiarity with tools, machinery, and safety protocols in a workshop environment.
  • Experience scaling or improving workshop operations, including introducing new systems or processes.
  • Excellent communication skills for coordinating across artisans, management, suppliers, and clients.
  • Business-minded approach, with the ability to align workshop efficiency with company growth goals.
