Job Description

Established in 1951, IOM is the leading inter-governmental organization in the field of migration and works closely with governmental, intergovernmental and non-governmental partners. With 165 member states, a further 8 states holding observer status and offices in over 100 countries, IOM is dedicated to promoting humane and orderly migration for the benefit of all. It does so by providing services and advice to governments and migrants. IOM works to help ensure the orderly and humane management of migration, to promote international cooperation on migration issues, to assist in the search for practical solutions to migration problems and to provide humanitarian assistance to migrants in need, including refugees and internally displaced people. The IOM Constitution recognizes the link between migration and economic, social and cultural development, as well as to the right of freedom of movement.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES

Tangible and measurable outputs of the work assignment

  • To develop a 14 hour youth-oriented business development training. Must be a combination of businesses skills and “personal initiative” attitude based curriculum.
  • To conduct the developed training over the course of 2 days for youth in the East and Horn of Africa region
  • To provide one-one-one coaching support for the youth entrepreneurs during the incubator
  • To develop 12 prompts for follow up by the programme team via WhatsApp (2 per month for 6 months). All competitors will be in one WhatsApp group to share experiences/encouragement.
  • Perform any other duties as assigned by supervisor.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • University and/or higher degree in international business, international relations, social sciences, law, or migration studies.
  • Experience in developing entrepreneurship curriculum
  • experience in delivering entrepreneurship curriculum
  • Experience working with youth entrepreneurs
  • Excellent knowledge of private sector dynamics
  • Knowledge of contemporary developments in private sector engagement
  • Excellent ability in writing mapping reports

LANGUAGES

  • Excellent command of English, required. Fluency in Kenyan/Ugandan/Ethiopian local languages an advantage
