Job Description

The seat of the County Government – Marsabit town, is situated 270Kms north of Isiolo town, with most trading and urban centers within the county ranging from 60Kms to over 300Kms from Marsabit town. Marsabit town sits at an altitude of 1,500m above sea level.

Duties and Responsibilities

Duties and responsibilities at this level will entail:

  • Undertaking general diagnosis, care, treatment and rehabilitation of patients;
  • Carrying out specialized clinical care providing psycho-social interventions, providing clinical services to patients;
  • Training, consulting and performing surgeries in various health facilities, carrying out forensic and medico-legal services;
  • Coordinating disease surveillance, prevention, and control;
  • Coordinating health education and promotion;
  • Implementing health projects and programmes;
  • Maintaining up-lo-date health information systems;
  • Monitoring provision of health treatment and care;
  • Undertaking health research; and analyzing medical reports.

Requirements for Appointment

For appointment to this grade, an officer must have: –

  • Be a Kenyan Citizen
  • Served as an Assistant Director of Medical Services/Medical Specialist Il for a minimum period of three (3) years.
  • Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (M.B. Ch. B) degree from an institution recognized by Medical Practitioners and Dentists Board;
  • Master’s degree in Obstetrician and gynecology or its equivalent qualification from an institution recognized by the Medical Practitioners and Dentists Board
  • Certificate of Registration by the Medical Practitioners and Dentist board
  • Valid practicing license from Medical Practitioners and Dentists Board;
  • Certificate in Strategic Leadership Development Programme lasting not less than six (6) weeks from a recognized institution,
  • Certificate in computer application skills from a recognized institution
  • Demonstrated professional competence and managerial capability as related in work preference and results

Personal Qualities

In addition to the above requirements, an officer must have the following qualities:

  • Ability to get on well with the diverse workforce
  • Good knowledge in the professional field of specialization
  • Good communication skills
  • Ability to work with minimum supervision
  • Good organizational and supervisory skills
