Job Description

United States International University – Africa is located in the Kasarani area, off Thika Road in the suburb of Kenya’s capital city of Nairobi. The university is an independent, not-for-profit institution serving 6512 students representing 69 nationalities.

Job Summary

The successful candidate will be reporting to the Dean, School of Pharmacy and Health Sciences. Essential to this role is the desire of the successful applicant to primarily focus on educating Bachelor of Pharmacy Students, engaging in research activities, and providing clinical expertise to enhance the overall learning experience and advance the field of pharmacy, as well as contribute to world-class research that improves practice while delivering a service to the university and the community.

Key Responsibilities

The Clinical Pharmacy Assistant Professor will be a key faculty member involved in teaching, research, and clinical responsibilities. The primary focus is on educating pharmacy students, engaging in research activities, and providing clinical expertise to enhance the overall learning experience and advance the field of pharmacy.

Qualifications:

  • A Ph.D. in Clinical Pharmacy or Registered for a PhD in Clinical Pharmacy or equivalent degree in a recognized university.
  • Master of Pharmacy in Clinical Pharmacy
  • Bachelor of Pharmacy from an accredited institution or equivalent with one (1) year of post-doctoral/residency experience and three (3) years of academic and clinical experience.
  • Registered with the Pharmacy and Poisons board and holds a current practice license.
  • Fulfills Commission for University Education requirements for the position.
  • Demonstrable ability to engage in independent clinical research, with an established record of scholarly publication / Cases / Conference presentations / Relevant certifications.
  • Experience in teaching and supervising pharmacy students in clinical settings.
  • Demonstrable success in the supervision of undergraduate and postgraduate students.
  • Demonstrable abilities to work effectively as an interdisciplinary and collegial team member, well-developed interpersonal skills, and the ability to provide leadership and take the initiative.

Characteristic Job Tasks and Responsibilities:

  • To promote and preserve the mission of USIU-Africa.
  • Teach and precept Pharmacy students at clinical sites.
  • Participate in Skills laboratory including Physical Assessment.
  • Participate in developing innovative advanced Pharmacy programs.
  • Provide Medication Therapy Management services at the respective clinical sites.
  • Coordinate courses and prepare educational tools.
  • Contribute to the planning and administration of the School of Pharmacy and Health Sciences.
  • Organize and provide inter-professional training.
  • Serve as advisor/mentor to assigned students.
  • Serve on committees as assigned.
  • Participate in faculty and professional development opportunities.
  • Participate in accreditation and other administrative functions.
  • Must be able to take direction and receive assignments from the head of department / Dean.
  • Works closely and collaboratively with other Faculty and Staff in and on a variety of shared responsibilities, and ensures good communication with other administrative offices.
  • Faculty members will contribute and be responsible for overall student success, including, but not limited to, advising and student outcomes.
