Job Description

Ciheb is an international health, education, and research center founded by the Institute of Human Virology within the University of Maryland, Baltimore’s School of Medicine. The center is comprised of a network of international experts who work with local stakeholders to combat infectious and non-communicable diseases in resource-limited regions of the world

Job Summary

The primary function of this position is to provide technical assistance to the service delivery team working in the Medication Assisted Therapy (MAT) clinics to scale up the provision of quality MAT services for people who inject drugs (PWID) and the provision of quality mental health services within CIHEB CONNECT Program.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Provide technical support to MAT clinics to ensure quality provision of services to PWIDs.
  • Ensure MAT client care is provided according to agreed basic care standards as defined by national guidelines and agreed performance measures.
  • Participate in National stakeholders meetings for MAT and development of tools and review of MAT protocols
  • Ensure that treatment care plans are developed for all clients enrolled in MAT.
  • Participate in the evaluation and continued improvement of medical care for people who inject drugs.
  • Conduct training and mentorship of multidisciplinary teams equipping them with skills to manage all co-occurring disorders among PWIDs including HIV, TB, Hepatitis, and Psychiatric disorders in consultation with other clinicians in the MAT clinic.
  • Establish and implement referral systems to other relevant service points.
  • Participate in monthly and quarterly stakeholder meetings to review utilization of MAT services including effective referrals with community-based organizations.
  • Utilize MAT facility data to inform the delivery of services at the MAT
  • Coordinate review of complex mental health clients by sub-county mental health focal persons and clinical psychologists.
  • Conduct capacity building on mental health services for healthcare workers
  • Ensure utilization of mental health assessment tools in CONNECT facilities and review documentation in KenyaEMR.
  • Support county and national mental health TWG in the development, implementation, and quality assurance of mental health services

Requirements

Required Qualifications

  • Degree in Clinical Medicine and Surgery with a bias in mental health/ Addiction Medicine

OR

  • Degree in Psychology with a bias in mental health/Addiction Medicine
  • NASCOP Certification in Provision of both adult and pediatric ART, and PMCT preferred.
  • Registration with relevant bodies

 Knowledge / experience

  • Practical Knowledge and experience in HIV management among people who Inject drugs (PWID) and or People who use drugs (PWUD)
  • Practical experience in addiction counselling especially among PWUD.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of client centered mental health and addictions interventions, practice methods and professional skills.
  • Knowledge of community resources, rehabilitation centers and CSOs is an added advantage.
