Job Description

Job Summary:

The overall purpose of this job is to maintain and repair school vehicles to ensure they are safe to operate, in compliance with regulations and safety standards, and available when needed to support the school’s transportation needs.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Conduct regular inspection and repair of school buses, vans, and other vehicles used by students and staff to ensure they are safe to operate and in compliance with relevant regulations and safety standards.
  • Maintain detailed records of spare parts, fluids, and other supplies needed for vehicle maintenance and repair, managing inventory levels while ordering necessary supplies.
  • Perform routine preventive maintenance tasks on school vehicles, including oil changes, tire rotations, fluid checks, and brake repairs to prevent breakdowns and prolong vehicle life.
  • Draft requisitions outlining required spare parts for purchase and submit them to the Transport In-charge for approval.
  • Utilize mechanical knowledge to diagnose and identify vehicle issues, determining necessary maintenance or repair actions to address root causes.
  • Create and implement maintenance schedules for school vehicles, setting up consistent programs preventing unexpected malfunctions and ensuring vehicles remain in excellent working condition.
  • Stay up-to-date with industry developments to learn new technologies and best practices for maintaining and repairing school vehicles.
  • Maintain a safe and organized work environment in the school’s garage or repair facility.
  • Provide guidance and conduct regular safety training sessions for drivers, ensuring they follow safety protocols.
  • Maintain relationships with vendors and suppliers to ensure timely delivery of parts and supplies.
  • Assist with the purchase or lease of new school vehicles and make recommendations based on school needs.
  • Perform any other responsibilities assigned by the supervisor from time to time.

Requirements

Qualifications:

  • Diploma in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
  • A valid Driving License.
  • Minimum of one year experience in a similar role.
