Job Description

Kenya Medical Research Institute (KEMRI) is a State Corporation established through the Science and Technology (Amendment) Act of 1979, which has since been amended to Science, Technology and Innovation Act 2013. The 1979 Act established KEMRI as a National body responsible for carrying out health research in Kenya.

Job Summary:

The primary responsibility of the position is to perform serological laboratory analysis of dried blood sample (DBS) specimens as per  he standard operating procedures. Prior to the laboratory analysis, an inventory of the DBS specimens to be analysed will be created.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with the WASH-B Serology project PI and laboratory supervisor to perform laboratory tests and experiments accurately and efficiently.
  • Ensure proper maintenance, calibration, and operation of laboratory equipment.
  • Monitor inventory of laboratory supplies and order replacements when necessary.
  • Oversee quality control procedures to ensure generation of accurate and reliable test results.
  • Maintain records of quality control data and troubleshoot any deviations.
  • Implement corrective actions to address quality issues and improve processes.
  • Participate in online meetings and provide updates to the leadership of the WASH-B Serology project.
  • Support the laboratory in activities towards ISO 15189:2012 accreditation.

Reporting to: WASH-B Serology Principal Investigator

Requirements

Required Qualifications

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Biomedical Sciences or a closely related field.
  • Knowledge about immunoassays and/or molecular applications.
  • Ability to carry out serological testing on Luminex multiplex platforms.
  • Fluency in English and Kiswahili (written and oral).
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office.

  • Excellent interpersonal relations skills.
  • Ability to work independently as well as an active member of a team.
